Abstract: A ski boot comprising an external shell and a rigid sole, a slipper producing at least one cavity between the shell and the foot. The method of adjustment consists in filling the cavity with a moldable mixture of products kept in a viscous or paste-like state by means of at least one volatile product, and then eliminating at least one of the volatile products by causing it to pass into a gaseous phase until the mixture of products hardens. The invention has the particular advantage of making it possible to adjust the ski boot to a skier's foot without risk of compressing it in a dangerous manner.

Abstract: A device for fastening a ski boot is characterized in that it comprises a second unlocking lever having a positive action, pivoted to the rack or clamping lever and whose pivotal movement causes the disengagement of the engagement pin of the clamping lever from the notch of the rack in which this pin was housed.

Abstract: Hinged to a mounting are, on the one hand, a lever pivoting about a first axis and, on the other hand, a boot-removing lever pivoting about a second axis. The lever carries a roller cooperating with a ramp on the jaw, for the purpose of keeping the jaw in the closed position. A resilient element, applying traction, is located between two points of attachment on the lever and the jaw. The present binding may be used as a heel-piece.

Abstract: The safety binding comprises a vertical pivot integral with a base mounted to the ski, a binding rotating upon the pivot and carrying means for retaining the boot, a locking system ensuring that the boot is maintained in a specific position upon the ski, and a compensating mechanism acting upon the locking system to cause a lateral retention force applied to the boot to vary inversely to a vertical retention force. The compensating mechanism includes a first part mounted to pivot about an axis at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the ski, and a second part mounted in the binding and movable relative to the first part; this second part cooperate, through a system of ramps, with the boot-retaining means to oppose the lifting of the boot.

Abstract: An articulated casing for ski boots comprises a plurality of rigid sections articulatedly interconnected for vertical swinging movement relative to each other about horizontal axes. In a preferred form, four such elements are provided, one comprising a sole or base, another comprising an upper which is pivotally mounted to the front of the base, and which may be in two parts that swing about axes parallel to the length of the base, and a third and fourth forming the front and rear of a boot top, at least one of which is pivoted to the rear of the base, the other being pivoted also to the rear of the base or to the rear of the upper. The various elements can be latched together in closed relationship, in which case they fold down upon each other to internest. Means are provided for securing the articulated parts in extended or use position; and the same means may hold the parts in the folded nested position. A waterproof sock can be provided within the casing.

Abstract: The device comprises two jaws hinged about an axle and subjected to the restoring action of a spring towards the closed position of these jaws onto a boot; a stop, integral with each jaw is adjacent its dead point in relation to the axle and is located on the other side of the longitudinal axis of the device. This arrangement reduces friction and permits effective return to the operative position whenever a load is insufficient to cause the boot to be released.

Abstract: A ski brake comprising at least one spade mounted in a pivot to rotate about an axis between an inactive position in which it is retracted above the ski when a boot is placed on the ski and an active position in which it projects below the sole of the ski. A mechanism is provided for moving the spade from the inactive position into the active position. The axis of the spade is inclined downwards towards the longitudinal axis of the ski and towards the front or rear of the ski so that the spade can move between its active and inactive positions by a rotation of less than 180.degree., enabling association of the brake with known step-in devices.

Abstract: A ski brake comprising an elastic system of two springs acting in the same direction on a braking blade wherein one spring is an auxiliary spring of low strength acting alone on the blade until the blade attains a critical intermediate position, the second spring being a main spring of high strength acting on the blade conjointly with the first spring during a portion of the remainder of the travel of the blade from the critical intermediate position to the active position in which the blade is forcibly embedded into the snow.

Abstract: A ski brake having at least one pivotal blade capable of being embedded into the snow and wherein the blade is urged to an inactive position by an elastic member of low tension. An elastic return member of a step-on pedal exerts a positive action on the blade only during raising of pedal to cause the blade to travel to its active position, while freeing the blade during the descent of the pedal in order to permit the low tension elastic member to return the blade to inactive position.

Abstract: A ski binding of the type comprising a plate engageable by a skier's boot and a releasable mechanism for securing the plate on a ski and enabling the plate to separate from the ski if the skier should fall. A ski brake is supported by the plate and comprises at least one spade pivoted on the plate. A member movable by engagement with a skier's boot controls the spade so that the spade is retracted into an inactive position above the ski sole when the boot is placed on the plate and projects downwardly into an active position below the ski sole when the boot is separated from the plate.

Abstract: A safety arrangement for a ski comprising a binding having a plate and a brake in the form of a spade pivoted on the ski and normally biased by a resilient member into an active position in which the spade projects below the sole of the ski. The spade may be retracted into an inactive position against the action of the resilient member. The spade is movable into the inactive position when the plate is fitted on the ski and a skier's boot is retained in position on the plate.

Abstract: Apparatus for connecting the leg of a skier to a ski comprises a casing comprised of rigid sections articulatedly interconnected for vertical swinging movement relative to each other about horizontal axes perpendicular to the length of the ski. The various elements can be latched together in closed relationship; and means are provided for deliberately unlatching the elements to free the skier's foot, or for automatically unlatching the elements upon excessive forward or rearward bending or force application, or excessive torsional force. A waterproof sock can be provided within the casing.

Abstract: A ski binding consists of: a baseplate mounted on the ski; two arms articulated in relation to the baseplate, arranged symmetrically in relation to the longitudinal axis of the ski, and each comprising a retaining jaw; a resilient element actuating the jaws on the articulated arms through a transmitting element; in relation to the baseplate, the articulated arms rotate about a vertical axis and move longitudinally; the present binding has been designed for the express purpose of restricting the intensity of the frictional forces between parts moving in relation to each other.

Abstract: The binding is specially designed to keep the boot attached to the ski by its sides and comprises a baseplate mounted on the ski, two hinged arms, each consisting of a jaw holding the boot and a resilient element urging the jaws of the hinged arms towards the lateral edges of the boot. The jaws carry at one end a first ramp and, at the other end, a second ramp. Each lateral edge of the boot has a first ramp and a second ramp. The binding is intended, more particularly, to keep the boot attached to the ski, without any play, even if there is snow under the sole of the boot.

Abstract: A safety binding for ski boots comprising: a first holding element, mobile in relation to a ski about a vertical axis, for retaining one end of the boot; a second holding element, releasable under the action of an abnormally high vertical load, for retaining the other end of the boot; a connecting element for connecting the boot to the ski, comprising a resilient element restoring the boot to its axial position upon the ski. One end of this connecting element is secured to the ski by means of the mobile element. The binding has the special advantage of allowing the binding to release under the action of a lateral load, while keeping the boot permanently connected to the ski.

Abstract: A safety ski binding provides automatic recentering of a ski boot along the longitudinal axis of the ski and comprises for one end of the boot a retaining element which consists of a catch cooperating with a slope and adapted to move, in relation to the ski, between two positions. The end of the boot comprises, above the slope which cooperates with the catch, a sliding surface pointing in a downward direction and cooperating with the catch when the latter rocks from the first to the second position.

Abstract: A device for mounting a brake on a ski having a safety fastening comprising a longitudinal slide bar attached to the ski comprises a brake element slidably mounted on the slide bar. The brake element is secured in place and is so fitted that it cannot be detached from the slide bar in the transverse direction.

Abstract: The boot is designed to be attached to a ski-boot safety binding and comprises a boot-retaining element located on one of the sides of the ski; one of the ends of the sole of the boot comprises a recess to allow the retaining element to pass under the sole of the boot when the latter pivots; a recess prevents the boot from becoming locked in the binding upon release of the latter when the boot is subjected to a torque of high intensity.

Abstract: The system includes: a reference point on the ski; front and rear jaws for maintaining the boot on the ski and disposed in a predetermined relationship relative to this reference point; a member fixed on the ski and adapted to receive each jaw in a slidable manner and including means for guiding the jaws longitudinally; an inversed drive mechanism connecting the jaws and acting along the longitudinal axis of the ski for moving simultaneously the jaws in opposite directions from and towards the reference point on the ski; and single control means operating the inverse drive mechanism.

Abstract: The safety binding for a ski boot comprises a retaining element for one end of the boot mounted to pivot about links hinged in relation to the ski; a first system of locks consisting of a system of ramps and stops, and a second lock consisting of a second system of ramps and stops which temporarily prevent the retaining element from pivoting, forcing it to move against the action of a resilient element. The second system of locks prevents the binding from releasing itself as a result of an inadvertent impact.
