    Abstract: A process for preparing a polymerization catalyst useful for the polymerization of olefins is provided comprising contacting a metal dihalide compound wherein the metal is selected from Group 2 and Group 12 of the Periodic Table and a transition metal compound which is a hydrocarbyloxide of a transition metal selected from Group 4 and Group 5 to form a first catalyst component; contacting the first catalyst component with at least one organoaluminum precipitating agent, wherein at least at the commencement of this step, the temperature at which such contacting is carried out is greater than about 70.degree. C. to about 150.degree. C. to form a solid product, and contacting the solid product with an activating agent to form a catalyst. Other aspects of the invention provide a catalyst prepared by the above described method and a polymerization process employing the thus prepared catalyst.

    Abstract: Silica supported high activity olefin polymerization catalysts, methods of producing the catalysts and methods of using the catalysts in the polymerization of olefins are provided. The methods of producing the catalysts each basically comprise contacting a particulate silica support impregnated with tungsten oxide with the soluble complex produced by heating a mixture of a metal dihalide with a transition metal compound to produce a solid, and then reacting the solid with an organoaluminum halide. The catalysts produced have improved productivities and are less soluble in polymerization media.

    Abstract: A catalyst useful in the polymerization of olefinic compounds and particularly 4-methyl-1-pentene is disclosed along with its method of preparation and use. The catalyst is prepared by (a) forming a first component by reacting reactants comprising a magnesium dihalide, a phenol, and alkylbenzoate, and a titanium tetrahydrocarbyloxide; (b) reacting the first component with an organoaluminum halide compound to produce a solid product; and (c) then contacting the resulting solid product with an activating liquid comprising titanium tetrachloride and trichlorosilane in a confined zone under pressure of at least 70 psi.

    Abstract: A chromium salt such as ammonium chromate or ammonium dichromate, which is normally insoluble in nonaqueous solvents which do not easily rehydrate the silica surface is solubilized, for instance by treating it with a crown ether, and impregnated onto a particulate support from a nonaqueous solvent which does not easily rehydrate the silica. The resulting composition is then activated in an oxygen ambient such as air in a conventional manner and then utilized as a catalyst for polymerization reactions such as the production of polyolefins.
