Patent number: 10448893Abstract: Devices and systems provide methods for detecting respiratory related effort from movements associated with the head or face. In one embodiment, a strain signal is measured by one or more sensors. A processor may analyze the head strain signal to detect respiratory related effort. Detection of effort may serve as a basis for identifying sleep disordered breathing events. For example, the analysis may serve as part of a detector to identify central or obstructive apneas or central or obstructive hypopneas. Sensors may be integrated with headgear to support them at desired locations of the face or head. Strain from head movement may be detected by measuring, for example, tension of the headgear or force applied against the headgear. The headgear may serve as an independent support for the sensors or as a component of a respiratory treatment apparatus, such as a mask or cannula.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2012Date of Patent: October 22, 2019Assignee: ResMed Pty LtdInventors: Jeffrey Peter Armitstead, Glenn Richards, Alicia Kristianne Wells

Publication number: 20190314597Abstract: A device (102) provides respiratory treatment for SDB (including mild OSA) and other respiratory conditions. A flow generator warms and humidifies gas at controlled flow levels. For example, the device (102) delivers breathable gas to the upper airway at flow rates of about 10-35 Liters/minute. Levels of flow rate, temperature and/or humidification of the device may be automatically adjusted in response to the detection of SDB events. The device may also automatically deliver adjustments of any of the levels in accordance with detected phases of respiratory cycles. In some embodiments, the device automatically delivers distinct levels to either of the nares based on independent control of flow to each nare. A warm-up procedure controls temperature and humidity at a desired target during a ramp-up of flow to the set therapy level. A cool-down procedure controls temperature above the dewpoint to avoid condensation internal to the device and patient interface.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2019Publication date: October 17, 2019Inventors: Peter John Sweeney, Adam Vivian Benjafield, Steven Paul Farrugia, Dieter Heidmann, Glenn Richards, Paul Jan Klasek

Publication number: 20180369522Abstract: A respiratory treatment apparatus implements pressure delivery control settings by improved set-up procedures. In such an embodiment, a processor may automate setting of parameters for delivering a controlled flow of breathable gas. Data sets of pressure delivery parameter settings may be associated with one or more respiratory pathology indicators. The respiratory pathology indicators may each represent a different respiratory condition diagnosis. The processor may then prompt for an input of at least one of the respiratory pathology indicators. In response to the input, a particular set of pressure delivery parameter settings associated with the input respiratory pathology indicator may then serve as a basis for setting controls for delivering a controlled flow of breathable gas for respiratory treatment.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2018Publication date: December 27, 2018Applicant: ResMed LimitedInventors: David John Bassin, Glenn Richards

Patent number: 10160914Abstract: Processes and systems for the above ground extraction of crude oil from a mud-water slurry well bore mined from oil rich diatomite formations. The slurry is separated into liquid and solid factions, the liquid faction having oil, water and small sized solids, and the solid faction having larger chunks of solids. The solids faction is processed to form a slurry mixture which is cooked to disassociate oil therefrom and is centrifuged to yield an oil/solvent faction, a water faction, and a lowered oil content solids faction. The oil/solvent faction is further processed to separate the oil and solvent. Alternately, the mud-water slurry is treated to form an emulsion having a neutral pH, with solids being removed and the remaining emulsion processed to break the emulsion by removal of water as a vapor to recovery crude oil, with remaining crude oil in the solids being further processed.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2018Date of Patent: December 25, 2018Assignee: TRC OPERATING COMPANY, INC.Inventors: Charles H.
