    Abstract: Disclosed embodiments relate to a character detection method and apparatus. In some embodiments, the method includes: using an image including an annotated word as an input to a machine learning model; selecting, based on a predicted result of characters inside an annotation region of the annotated word predicted and annotation information of the annotated word, characters for training the machine learning model from the characters inside the annotation region of the annotated word predicted; and training the machine learning model based on features of the selected characters. This implementation manner implements the full training of a machine learning model by using existing word level annotated images, to obtain a machine learning model capable of detecting characters in images, thereby reducing the costs for the training of a machine learning model capable of detecting characters in images.

    Abstract: A remote food management system includes a smart refrigerator, a food ingredients identification device and a smart phone. The smart refrigerator is used for storing at least one food ingredient. The food-ingredient identifying device is used for capturing a food-ingredient image with respect to the food ingredient. The circuit module analyzes the food-ingredient image to produce a plurality of food-ingredient information and at least one freshness parameter, and further calculates an expiration date for the food ingredient. Then, the circuit module establishes a list of food ingredients according to the expiration date. The smart phone is connected to the food-ingredient identifying device so as to read and show the list.

    Abstract: Phase change material modules for use in a heat exchanger are described. The phase change material module comprises two or more set of a plurality of substantially aligned hollow structures arranged to form a porous structure. Also described is a phase change material module with hollow tubes having a cross-sectional area through the phase change material selected from elliptical, rectangular, stadium-shaped, teardrop-shaped, airfoil-shaped, rounded rectangle and ovoid. A heat exchanger comprising a plurality of the phase change material modules, a first fluid inlet and outlet, and a second fluid inlet and outlet, wherein the phase change material modules are repeated circulated from alignment with the first fluid inlet and the second fluid inlet is also described.
