Abstract: In a fast, convenient voice dialing apparatus and method, users efficiently and conveniently apply a telephone number digit recognition engine to number dialing. By voicing only a subset of a telephone number among telephone numbers pre-registered in a telephone number directory, the success rate of number dialing and convenience of users increases. The voice dialing apparatus includes a fast voice dial mode setting unit, a contracted number database, a contracted number detection unit, and a telephone number connection unit. Since a user only needs to voice a subset of a telephone number stored in a telephone number directory, long telephone numbers are dialed with better recognition performance at an improved speed. Since telephone numbers that users try to call are pre-stored in a telephone number directory, the number of combinable numbers equals the number of lists registered in the telephone number directory, and recognition speed and performance are improved.

Abstract: An apparatus for preventing data loss of a nonvolatile memory device and a method thereof are presented The apparatus includes a nonvolatile memory including a memory cell which writes bit information to a first page and a second page included in a first block using plural states which are implemented using at least 2 bits, and a data-processing unit which writes the bit information of the first page to a second block in the nonvolatile memory while the bit information is written to the second page after the bit information is written to the first page.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for browsing a plurality of broadcast programs are provided. The method includes classifying a plurality of broadcast programs into one or more broadcast program groups with reference to electronic program guide (EPG) information or viewing records of a user regarding the broadcast programs, one-dimensionally arranging the broadcast programs so that the broadcast program groups are one-dimensionally arranged, displaying the broadcast programs and the broadcast program groups on a screen as a graphic image, and allowing the user to change a rule used for forming the broadcast program groups. Accordingly, it is possible to enable a user to effectively browse broadcast programs and to provide the user with a user interface customized for the user by using a simple one-dimensional input method and intuitively utilizing EPG information.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing a graphic user interface composed of a plurality of columns. The apparatus includes a command receiving unit, a determining unit, a display unit, and a transmitting/receiving unit. The command receiving unit receives a movement command or a selection command for a selector for selecting an item of at least one of the columns on the graphic user interface. The determining unit determines whether to activate items of the other columns associated with the selected item of a column. The display unit outputs the activated items of the other columns using the graphic user interface. The transmitting/receiving unit transmits a command message according to item selection with respect to the output activated columns.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for searching a handwritten memo, which is input by a user using a digital pen interface, for a word corresponding to the user's query. The apparatus includes a preprocessing unit which removes unnecessary portions from digital ink data of an input query phrase and an input memo to reduce an information amount, a feature extraction unit which extracts a feature vector from the digital ink data having the reduced information amount, and a query searching unit which searches the memo for a portion matched with the query phrase in units of segments. Therefore, an accurate result can be obtained quickly when an existing memo or document is searched for desired content by inputting a query phrase using a digital pen.

Abstract: A system and method for changing a name contained in a TV program being broadcast to a name requested by a TV viewer and providing the TV program containing the changed name are provided. The digital broadcast system includes a digital content receiver belonging to a user requesting a name change service; and a digital broadcast server for broadcasting a TV program to the digital content receiver, and if changing a name contained in the TV program to a different name is requested, providing the TV program containing a changed name to the digital content receiver. The TV viewer can watch a TV program in which original names are replaced by the viewer's name or acquaintances' names.

Abstract: Provided is a modular remote controller assembled by the connection of modules chosen based on desired functions, wherein each of the modules is constructed for one function of the remote controller. The modular remote controller includes: a main remote controller which generates a remote control signal for remote controlling an electronic apparatus in response to one of an internal control signal, which is internally generated in response to a key input, and an external control signal; and at least one remote controller extension module which is detachably coupled to the main remote controller and generates the external control signal.
