  • Patent number: 6468132
Abstract: A grinding arrangement for grinding knives of a chopper drum of a forage harvester includes a movement arrangement for effecting movement of a grinding stone over the length of each of the knives, where individual locations of the knives can be associated with differing grinding times in order that the knives be ground to produce a desired cylindrical profile. A control for the movement arrangement may include either a sensor for determining the need for grinding a given knife at a precise location along the knife and the grinding time required for achieving a desired profile, or predetermined information stored in memory which operates to automatically cause a certain amount of grinding time to elapse in accordance with a specific axial position of the grinding stone.

  • Publication number: 20010034187
Abstract: An automatic grinding device for sharpening the knives of a forage harvester chopper drum includes a controller including a counter for counting the number of times the grindstone is adjusted toward the chopper drum during sharpening operation. The controller includes a microprocessor having a non-volatile memory in which may be stored a threshold value, determined by the type of grindstone, to which the count of the counter may be compared for generating a signal indicating the degree of wear of the grindstone so that it may be replaced when worn out.

  • Patent number: 5684494
Abstract: The invention provides a reflector antenna, especially for a communications satellite, having at least one fixed main reflector (102) with an essentially circular aperture. A fixed feed system (118) includes a horn radiator (108) with a rotationally symmetric radiation diagram and a fixed polarization direction. An auxiliary reflector may be arranged to be rotationally positionable around a main axis (E) and has a reflecting surface that is shaped as a partial surface of a nonrotationally symmetric ellipsoid with a low numerical eccentricity, which illuminates main reflector (102) elliptically with an ellipticity that is essentially constant regardless of the rotational position.

  • Patent number: 5457535
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for determining the concentration of optically-active substances in a fluid, such as glucose in the body fluids of a patient, two light sources are used to produce respective polarized light beams which pass through the substance to be analyzed and are incident on a detector. The second beam has a fixed polarization direction relative to the first beam. The light sources are alternatingly switched on and off at a known-frequency. A dispersing element is disposed in the path of each beam. A comparative signal is produced from the beams exiting the substance and incident on the detector.

  • Patent number: 5357960
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the quantitative determination of optically active substances includes two light-emitting diodes, each with a respective collimator lens and polarization filter, a cell filled with dialysate, an analyzer, a detector and measurement and evaluation electronics. The clocked light of the light-emitting diodes is linearly polarized by the polarization filters. The polarization directions differ by a few degrees. The polarization direction of the analyzer is aligned essentially perpendicularly relative to the polarization filters, such that the radiation of the two light-emitting diodes passing through an optically non-rotating dialysate generates the same photosignal in the detector.

  • Patent number: 5316338
Abstract: Transport arrangements for cutting heads or the like have previously been configured as independent one or two-axle trailers upon which the implement could be deposited. The disadvantage is that thereby a self-supporting construction is required which entails high costs. In another known embodiment a two wheel trailer is attached to both the front and the rear end of the implement, which is costly and increases the length of the complete rig. The transport arrangement proposed consists of a draft tongue and a trailer, where the tongue is inserted into and secured to the implement and the trailer is attached underneath the implement. Transport arrangements of this type are used to transport agricultural implements.

  • Patent number: 5287454
Abstract: Method for acquiring network knowledge in the individual operating locations of a digital transmission network having a plurality of network nodes.Following a computer outage, digital signal connections set up via central computers can no longer be reconstructed within the individual network nodes, so that no emergency operation is possible. The method is intended to place every participating network node into the position of maintaining the original or momentary path of the digital signal connection given computer outage or to restore it or, respectively, to independently set up or alternately route a connection. At the start of the digital signal connection, the digital signal is provided with an identifier in every transmission direction in the transmitting network node, this identifier being supplemented in every following, through-connecting and terminating network node. This identifier can be evaluated in each of these network nodes.

  • Patent number: 5275322
Abstract: A surgical stapling instrument for performing a circular anastomosis stapling operation is provided. The surgical instrument includes a stapling head assembly mounted by a curved shaft to an actuator handle assembly and incorporates an improved actuator mechanism for transmitting the required operating forces and movements from the actuator handle assembly through the curved shaft to an anvil and staple driver of the stapling head assembly. The stapling head assembly includes a longitudinally movable trocar detachably secured by one or more retainer clips on a hollow shaft of the anvil. When the trocar is retracted, the anvil shaft slides into a central support tube which aligns the anvil axially and circumferentially with a staple holder on the stapling head assembly. The retainer clips are locked against the trocar by the support tube and transmit tension from the trocar to the anvil with no tension load on the anvil shaft.
