  • Patent number: 4721826
Abstract: By the process of the present invention the activity of heterogeneous catalysts for reactions at normal and low pressures is restored or maintained. These catalysts can lose their activity as a result of the deposition, physisorption or chemisorption of organic or inorganic deactivating substances which are carried over into the reaction system or are formed as the result of side reactions in a chemical synthesis carried out with the aid of the catalyst. The activity is restored or maintained by using a pressure greater than the critical pressure of the fluid phase and a temperature higher than or equal to the critical temperature of the fluid phase. In this process, the pressure and temperature are applied for a period such that the deactivating substances are either removed from the catalyst or are not initially deposited thereon or absorbed or formed.

  • Patent number: 4704453
Abstract: Alkylglucosides are prepared by acetalization of glucose with an equivalent amount or an excess of a C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -alkanol in the presence of an acidic catalyst by a method wherein the acetalization is carried out in the presence of an alkali metal salt of a boric acid used in an amount which is equivalent to or in excess of the amount of the catalyst. The alkylglucosides obtained can be used directly, for example as solubilizers, in particular in the cosmetic sector, or can be reacted further to give higher alkylglucosides.

  • Patent number: 4695412

  • Patent number: 4693848
Abstract: Alkali metal and alkaline earth metal salts of acyloxybenzenesulfonic acids of the formula I ##STR1## where R is a saturated or unsaturated alkyl radical of 1 to 17 carbon atoms or is phenyl which is unsubstituted or monosubstituted or disubstituted by alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, halogen, methoxy or nitro, are prepared by neutralization, by a method in which a liquid acyloxybenzenesulfonic acid of the formula I and an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide, carbonate or bicarbonate are combined in water, at from 0.degree. to 60.degree. C. and while mixing thoroughly, so that the pH is kept at from 2.5 to 7.0, and, if desired, the resulting salt is isolated from the aqueous solution in a conventional manner.

  • Patent number: 4629060
Abstract: Apparatus for handling bulk material located in a pile at a storage site including a stationary support column that is anchored at the lowermost end thereof. The support column supports a stacker device at the uppermost end thereof, the stacker device being mounted for rotating movement relative to said support column for stacking the material at the storage site in a substantially circular array. A material feed device is mounted over said stacker device and feeds the material thereto during the stacking operation. Mounted for rotary movement relative to said support column is a reclaimer device, the reclaimer device being operable to reclaim the material from the pile for transfer thereof to a discharge area.
