  • Patent number: 7295399
Abstract: A floppy disk drive includes a frame having a bottom portion and left and right walls and a casing for covering the frame. The casing includes an upper cover for covering an upper side of the frame and a lower cover for covering a lower side of the frame, in which the upper cover has a top plate and left and right side plates, and the lower cover has a bottom plate and left and right plates. Each of the side walls of the frame is designed so as to have size and height that are partially overlapped with the side plate of the upper cover and the side plate of the lower cover, respectively, at each side of the casing, thereby providing a triplex structure for reinforcing each side of the casing.

  • Patent number: 7271980
Abstract: In a disk chucking mechanism for use in a flexible disk drive adopting a spindle motor (300) of a Hall sensor-less method, a driving pin (317A) freely received in a driving oval hole (46b) of a flexible disk (40) has a shape (shape of fan) where a catch factor portion is cut so that the driving pin (317A) is not in contact with an inner edge of the driving oval hole (46b) as much as possible when a rotor (310A) of the spindle motor (300) rotates in the opposite direction (counterclockwise).

  • Patent number: 7271979
Abstract: In a flexible disk drive for a flexible disk, a main frame defines a receiving portion for receiving the flexible disk. The main frame has a principal surface which faces the receiving portion and extends in a first direction and a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. A carriage assembly is mounted on the main frame and has a magnetic head for accessing the flexible disk. The carriage assembly is movable to carry the magnetic head along the principal surface. An eject base is coupled to the main frame and has a main portion facing the principal surface and side plates opposite to each other in the first direction. Between the main frame and the eject base, an eject plate is placed movable in the second direction for ejecting the flexible disk from the receiving portion. The eject plate has side plates facing the side plates of the eject base in the first direction, respectively.

  • Patent number: 7227718
Abstract: A front shutter (13?) comprises arm portions (132, 133) formed at both ends of an upper side of a door member (131). While one shaft portion (136) is formed on one of the arm portions (132) through a positioning portion (134), the other shaft portion (137) is formed on the other of the arm portions (133). The shaft portions (136, 137?) are inserted into holes formed on a cut and raised piece (111) and a side wall (112) respectively. The cut and raised piece (111) and the side wall (112) rotatably supports the shaft portions (136, 137?). A gap between the arm portion (133) and the side wall (112) is wider because of no positioning portion between the arm portion (133) and the side wall (112). The shutter spring (14?) not only gives force to the front shutter (13?) in a closing direction but also presses the front shutter toward the cut and raised piece (111) to prevent the shutter from moving along a pivot defined by the shaft portions (136, 137?).

  • Publication number: 20060023350
Abstract: A shutter driving mechanism has a disk shutter arm engaged with a corner portion of a shutter while a flexible disk is inserted in a thin flexible disk drive. The shutter driving mechanism drives the shutter so as to open the shutter by rotating the disk shutter arm. The shutter driving mechanism is rotatably mounted on a disk holder for holding the flexible disk. Integrally formed to the arm near a tip of the disk shutter arm, a stopper made of resin supports the flexible disk at a rear surface thereof so as to avoid crashing the flexible disk with a lower magnetic head on inserting/ejecting the flexible disk in/from the thin flexible disk drive. The stopper has a projection part projecting at a tip thereof upwards so that the projection part supports the flexible disk in line contact.

  • Patent number: 6876516
Abstract: In a disk drive for using a disk cartridge including a magnetic disk, a reinforcing arrangement is coupled to a main frame, a main board fixed to the main frame, and a head assembly which is movable in a radial direction of the magnetic disk. The reinforcing arrangement inhibits internal collision in the head assembly even when the disk drive is subjected to a mechanical shock. The main board and the head assembly are placed between the main frame and a cover which is opposite to the main frame.

  • Patent number: 6873493
Abstract: In a disk drive for using a disk cartridge including a magnetic disk, a reinforcing arrangement is coupled to a main frame, a main board, and a disk receiving/ejecting mechanism which is for receiving and ejecting the disk cartridge. The reinforcing arrangement resists an external stress applied between the main frame and a cover opposite to the main frame to protect a head assembly which is movable between the main frame and the cover in a radial direction of the magnetic disk. The main board and the disk receiving/ejecting mechanism are placed between the main frame and the cover and are coupled to the main frame.

  • Patent number: 6807026
Abstract: A projecting portion is formed on an edge, which provides a notch for an eject button, of a front shutter of an FDD. The projecting portion projects toward the eject button. The eject button provides a cavity for canceling interference between the projecting portion and the eject button in a state without external force. Upon receiving external force, the eject button is pressed to the projecting portion. In this state, the front shutter is forced to rotate in a closing direction thereof. Because the front shutter keeps a closed state, the force given to the projecting portion has a direction parallel to a main surface of a door member of the front shutter. Therefore, the door member is not bent by the external force and the front shutter does not come off from a main frame of the FDD.

  • Patent number: 6804082
Abstract: A front shutter attaching structure comprises flanges formed on peripheral surfaces of coaxial pivots of a front shutter and hooks formed at a cover for covering an upper side of a main frame. The front shutter is attached to the main frame by inserting of the pivots into holes formed in side plates of the main frame. Because the flanges are impossible to be inserted into the holes of the main frame, they restrict movement of the front shutter in a direction along the pivots against the main frame. Each of the hooks is located between a door member of the front shutter and each of the flanges when the cover is fixed to the main frame. The hooks restrict movement of the flanges in the direction along the pivots at the base side of the pivots.
