  • Publication number: 20040184185
Abstract: A flexible disk drive comprises a main frame, a magnetic head, a head assembly supporting the magnetic head so as to move the magnetic head in a tracking direction, and a guide rod fixedly attached onto the main frame by a metal fitting to guide the head assembly in the tracking direction. The main frame is made of a sheet metal and is provided with a recessed portion having a sidewall. The sidewall is faced to an end face of the guide rod with a small space left therebetween so that the recessed portion restricts the movement of the guide rod in the tracking direction.

  • Publication number: 20040184186
Abstract: A front shutter (13′) comprises arm portions (132, 133) formed at both ends of an upper side of a door member (131). While one shaft portion (136) is formed on one of the arm portions (132) through a positioning portion (134), the other shaft portion (137) is formed on the other of the arm portions (133). The shaft portions (136, 137′) are inserted into holes formed on a cut and raised piece (111) and a side wall (112) respectively. The cut and raised piece (111) and the side wall (112) rotatably supports the shaft portions (136, 137′). A gap between the arm portion (133) and the side wall (112) is wider because of no positioning portion between the arm portion (133) and the side wall (112). The shutter spring (14′) not only gives force to the front shutter (13′) in a closing direction but also presses the front shutter toward the cut and raised piece (111) to prevent the shutter from moving along a pivot defined by the shaft portions (136, 137′).

  • Patent number: 6795276
Abstract: A stepping motor in a thin-sized flexible disk drive is disposed on a pedestal portion in such a manner as to be spaced apart from a main wall of a main plate. The pedestal portion is made of a pedestal and a support metal member. The pedestal is formed by projecting a part of the main plate from a back-surface side thereof to an obverse-surface side thereof. A support plate is screwed to the pedestal to support the stepping motor and to rotatably support the extending end of the rotating shaft of the stepping motor. The pedestal is provided with a plurality of positioning projections formed to project from an obverse-surface side thereof, and a screwing hole for screwing the support metal member. The support metal member is provided with holes formed at positions respectively corresponding to the plurality of projections and the screwing hole.

  • Publication number: 20030053248
Abstract: In a disk drive for using a disk cartridge including a magnetic disk, a reinforcing arrangement is coupled to a main frame, a main board, and a disk receiving/ejecting mechanism which is for receiving and ejecting the disk cartridge. The reinforcing arrangement resists an external stress, applied between the main frame and a cover opposite to the main frame, to protect a head assembly which is movable between the man frame and the cover in a radial direction of the magnetic disk. The main board and the disk receiving/ejecting mechanism are placed between the main frame and the cover and is coupled to the main frame.

  • Publication number: 20030043501
Abstract: A front shutter attaching structure comprises flanges formed on peripheral surfaces of coaxial pivots of a front shutter and hooks formed at a cover for covering an upper side of a main frame. The front shutter is attached to the main frame by inserting of the pivots into holes formed in side plates of the main frame. Because the flanges are impossible to be inserted into the holes of the main frame, they restrict movement of the front shutter in a direction along the pivots against the main frame. Each of the hooks is located between a door member of the front shutter and each of the flanges when the cover is fixed to the main frame. The hooks restrict movement of the flanges in the direction along the pivots at the base side of the pivots.

  • Publication number: 20030043500
Abstract: A projecting portion is formed on an edge, which provides a notch for an eject button, of a front shutter of an FDD. The projecting portion projects toward the eject button. The eject button provides a cavity for canceling interference between the projecting portion and the eject button in a state without external force. Upon receiving external force, the eject button is pressed to the projecting portion. In this state, the front shutter is forced to rotate in a closing direction thereof. Because the front shutter keeps a closed state, the force given to the projecting portion has a direction parallel to a main surface of a door member of the front shutter. Therefore, the door member is not bent by the external force and the front shutter does not come off from a main frame of the FDD.

  • Publication number: 20030039058
Abstract: A flexible disk drive includes a main plate. An ejecting plate is assembled on the main plate for sliding movement in only inserting and removing directions of a flexible disk. The flexible disk drive further includes a disk holder for holding the flexible disk. The disk holder has opposite side walls each having pins to be respectively inserted into cams provided in one of opposite side walls of the ejecting plate, and moves upward and downward according to sliding movement of the ejecting plate. Projecting portions are respectively provided on the opposite side walls of the disk holder, and a first guide portion which guides only upward and downward movement of the corresponding one of the projecting portions is provided on each of the opposite side walls of the main plate. Accordingly, the travel of the disk holder relative to the inserting and removing directions is restricted.

  • Patent number: 6507453
Abstract: In a thin floppy disk drive comprises a disk shutter arm (26), rotatably mounted on a disk holder (22), for opening and closing a shutter (43) of a floppy disk (40) and an eject lever (25), rotatably mounted on a main frame (13), having an eject stop part (253) engaged with a plate stopper portion (212) of an eject plate (21), the eject lever (25) has an eject protrusion (252a). The disk shutter arm (26) has a shutter hook part (261a) engaged with the eject protrusion so as to control a rotation operation of the eject lever when the floppy disk (40) is not inserted in the thin floppy disk drive. It is therefore possible to prevent the elect lever (25) from rotating over a predetermined rotation angle as far as the floppy disk (40) is not inserted in the thin floppy disk drive.

  • Patent number: 6499210
Abstract: In a method of mounting a drive motor to a frame member included in a disk drive which is for driving a flexible disk, the frame member is formed to have a main frame portion and a motor frame portion integrally formed to the main frame portion. The main frame portion defines a position of the flexible disk in the disk drive. Use is made of a jig adapted to engage with the main frame portion and a bearing portion provided to a stator of the drive motor. On positioning the stator relative to the motor frame portion, the jig is engaged with the main frame portion and the bearing portion. Under this state, the stator is fixed to the motor frame portion. After that, the bearing portion rotatably supports a rotation shaft coupled to a rotor of the drive motor.
