  • Patent number: 9240227
Abstract: A technique for serially coupling devices in a daisy chain cascading arrangement. Devices are coupled in a daisy chain cascade arrangement such that outputs of a first device are coupled to inputs of a second device later in the daisy chain to accommodate the transfer of information, such as data, address and command information, and control signals to the second device from the first device. The devices coupled in the daisy chain comprise a serial input (SI) and a serial output (SO). Information is input to a device via the SI. The information is output from the device via the SO. The SO of an earlier device in the daisy chain cascade is coupled to the SI of a device later in the daisy chain cascade. Information input to the earlier device via the device's SI is passed through the device and output from the device via the device's SO. The information is then transferred to the later device's SI via the connection from the earlier device's SO and the later device's SI.

  • Patent number: 9183892
Abstract: A first memory device and second memory device have a same input/output layout configuration. To form a stack, the second memory device is secured to the first memory device. To facilitate connectivity, the second memory device is rotationally offset with respect to the first memory device in the stack to align outputs of the first memory device with corresponding inputs of the second memory device. The rotational offset of the second memory device with respect to the first memory device aligns one or more outputs of the first memory device with one or more respective inputs of the second memory device. Based on links between outputs and inputs from one memory device to another in the stack, the stack of memory devices can include paths facilitating one or more series connection configurations through the memory devices.

  • Patent number: 9148277
Abstract: A system includes a memory controller and a plurality of semiconductor devices that are series-connected. Each of the devices has memory core for storing data. The memory controller provides a clock signal for synchronizing the operations of the devices. Each device includes a phase-locked loop (PLL) that is selectively enabled or disabled by a PLL enable signal. In each group, the PLLs of a selected number of devices are enabled by PLL enable signals and the other devices are disabled. The enabled PLL provides a plurality of reproduced clock signals with a phase shift of a multiple of 90° in response to an input clock signal. The data transfer is synchronized with at least one of the reproduced clock signals. In the devices of disabled PLLs, the data transfer is synchronized with the input clock signal. The enabled PLL and disabled PLL cause the devices to be the source and the common synchronous clocking, respectively. The devices can be grouped.

  • Patent number: 9054717
Abstract: A method, system and apparatus to provide a solution of PLL locking issue in the daisy chained memory system. A first embodiment uses consecutive PLL on based on locking status of backward device on the daisy chained memory system with no requirement of PLL locking status checking pin. A second embodiment uses Flow through PLL control with a locking status pin either using an existing pin or a separated pin. A third embodiment uses a relocking control mechanism to detect PLL relocking from the device. A fourth variation uses flag signal generation to send to the controller.

  • Publication number: 20150082072
Abstract: A system includes a memory controller and a plurality of memory devices that are connected in-series to the memory controller. The system operation is synchronous with clock that is provided in a fashion of source synchronous clock structure. The source synchronous clock structure includes a PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) that reshapes an incoming clock and a reshaped clock is provided. The PLL provides a shifted clock in phase of 90°. The phase-shifted clock and data are transmitted from the first device to the second device. Clock phase shift provides a center-edge clock with data to be transmitted. The devices are assigned with unique IDs. The least significant bit of the ID number of the last device is used for determination of clock alignment: edge- or center-aligned clock with data produced by the memory controller.

  • Patent number: 8984249
Abstract: A plurality of memory devices (e.g., DRAMs, SRAMs, NAND Flash, NOR Flash) is serially interconnected. Each of the interconnected devices receives a device identifier (ID) and latches it as its ID. Each device includes a circuit for calculating another ID or an incremented ID to generate it. The generated ID is transferred to another device and the ID is incremented in each of the devices in the serial interconnection. The last device in the interconnection provides a last generated ID that is provided to a memory controller having a recognition circuit that recognizes the total number of the serially interconnected devices, from the provided last generated ID. The recognition circuit recognizes the total output latency of the devices in the serial interconnection.

  • Publication number: 20150049543
Abstract: A method for improving sub-word line response comprises generating a variable substrate bias determined by at least one user parameter. The variable substrate bias is applied to a sub-word line driver in a selected sub-block of a memory. A voltage disturbance on a sub-word line in communication with the sub-word line driver is minimized by modifying a variable substrate bias of the sub-word line driver to change a transconductance of the sub-word line driver thereby.
