  • Publication number: 20200019349
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for providing a guest with access to a virtual storage on a physical storage using a peripheral component interface hub. In one embodiment, the method comprises the guest sending to the peripheral component interface hub a request to access the physical storage, the request including physical addresses of the physical storage, and the peripheral component interface hub sending specified information about the request to a hypervisor. This method further comprises the hypervisor determining whether to grant or to reject the request; and when the hypervisor grants the request, the hypervisor sending a configuration command to the peripheral component interface hub. This command includes a mapping of addresses from the physical storage to addresses from the virtual storage. In an embodiment, the peripheral component interface hub uses this mapping to replace the addresses in the request with translated virtual addresses.

  • Publication number: 20190361733
Abstract: A computer-implemented method is provided for supporting virtual machine and/or container live migration. The method may include hosting a virtual machine (VM) at a first location to be migrated to a second location by sending VM data packets from the first location to the second location and detecting a predetermined event associated with the VM at the first location. The method may further include prompting, in response to detection of the predetermined event, the redirection of the VM data packets from the first location to a buffer associated with the second location and storing the VM data packets in the buffer. The method may further include detecting an end of the predetermined event associated with the first location, and redirecting, in response to the end of the predetermined event, the VM data packets stored in the buffer to the VM migrated to the second location.

  • Publication number: 20190334797
Abstract: A method for detecting Quality of Service degradation in a network flow includes collecting time series data representing statistical information pertaining to a network flow registered with a network flow monitoring service. The time series data is collected from at least two network elements on a path of the network flow configured to report the time series data. The method further includes indicating Quality of Service degradation in the network flow based on a similarity of the time series data to expected time series data being below a specified similarity threshold, and triggering at least one action to address the similarity being below the specified similarity threshold.

  • Publication number: 20190327335
Abstract: A method for reducing reactivation time of services that includes examining page faults that occur during processing of a service after the service has been inactive to provide a plurality of prefetch groups, and formulating a prefetch decision tree from page fault data in the prefetch groups. Pages from an initial page table for the service following a reactivated service request are then compared with the prefetched pages in the resident memory in accordance with the prefetch decision tree. Pages in the page table that are not included in said prefetched pages are paged in. A process to provide to provide the service is executed using the page table. Executing the process substantially avoids page faults.

  • Patent number: 10444812
Abstract: Power consumption in a microprocessor platform is managed by setting a peak power level for power consumed by a multi-core microprocessor platform executing multi-threaded applications. The multi-core microprocessor platform contains a plurality of physical cores, and each physical core is configurable into a plurality of logical cores. A simultaneous multithreading level in at least one physical core is adjusted by changing the number of logical cores on that physical core in response to a power consumption level of the multi-core microprocessor platform exceeding the peak power level. Performance and power data based on simultaneous multi-threading levels are used in selecting the physical core to be adjusted.

  • Publication number: 20190260825
Abstract: A method and device for provisioning bare-metal servers to tenants of a cloud provider is provided. The cloud provider operating a datacenter receives a profile of a tenant. The cloud provider identifies a set of physical resources subscribed by the tenant based on the tenant's profile and identifies a bare-metal server in the datacenter having sufficient physical resources to provide the subscribed physical resources. The cloud center reports to the tenant a set of physical resources in the BM server that corresponds to the subscribed set of physical resources. The cloud center receives a request from the tenant to provision a tenant bare metal machine in the datacenter. The cloud center enables at least one of the reported physical resources in the bare-metal server for the tenant, based on the request, and disables remaining reported physical resources in the bare-metal.

  • Patent number: 10374628
Abstract: Method and apparatus for performing in-place compression is provided. The in-place compression system transfers source data from a partition of a memory to a data buffer based on a read address. Compressed data is created by referencing the source data stored in the data buffer. The system writes the compressed data to the memory partition based on a write address. When the write address points at an address location that stores source data that has not been transferred to the data buffer, the system overwrites the compressed data stored in the memory partition with the source data stored in the data buffer.
