    Abstract: A method of molding fiber-reinforced thermoset resin articles having improved mechanical properties. A thermosettable organic material is injected into a mold containing a fiber web. The molding composition includes (a) a thermosettable organic material containing two or more polymerizable carbon-carbon double bonds, (b) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer which forms a liquid homogeneous mixture with and is copolymerizable with (a) and is different from (a), and (c) an effective amount of an initiator or a mixture of initiators characterized by a ten-hour half life temperature, or in the case of a mixture of initiators, and average ten-hour half life temperature, of greater than about 50.degree. C. and less than 105.degree. C., which produces on decomposition less than 1.0 milliliter of gas per gram of resin as measured at a temperature of 25.degree. C. and a pressure of one atmosphere.

    Abstract: This invention relates to low shrinking, low viscosity curable polyester resin compositions, which compositions contain a mixture of (i) an unsaturated ester terminally modified with a reactive olefin such as dicyclopentadiene or other Diels-Alder adducts of cyclopentadiene with an olefinic or acetylenic hydrocarbon or alkylated derivative thereof, (ii) a copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer which serves to crosslink the unsaturated polyester to a thermoset product, and (iii) a thermoplastic polymer low profile additive. Cured articles prepared from these curable polyester resin compositions exhibit reduced surface roughness. Fiber reinforced thermoset articles can be produced from these curable resin compositions.

    Abstract: Curable thermosetting resin compositions comprising an epoxy resin having at least two 1,2-epoxy groups per molecule, an aromatic diamine hardener, and as a cure accelerator an aromatic trihydroxy compound are disclosed. The aromatic trihydroxy compound, such as for example, phloroglucinol, n-propyl gallate, or pyrogallol, improves the cure speed of the epoxy/aromatic diamine resin system, while at the same time producing cured compositions having excellent mechanical and thermal properties. The disclosed compositions find particular application in the preparation of composites by, e.g., filament winding procedures.
