    Abstract: An ion source including a plasma chamber for generating a plasma therein, at least three parallel electrodes for drawing out an ion beam from the plasma chamber, the first and second power sources for generating high and low drawing voltages, respectively, is disclosed in which the first power source is connected between the first pair of adjacent electrodes spaced apart from each other a relatively long distance to perform a high voltage operation, the second power source is connected between a second pair of adjacent electrodes spaced apart from each other a relatively short distance to perform a low voltage operation, and one of the high voltage operation and low voltage operation is changed over to the other with the aid of switching elements.

    Abstract: Manufacturing of film through co-deposition with a high-energy beam and a low-energy beam. The low-energy beam is produced by electron beam heating or resistance heating. The high-energy beam is produced by a bucket-type ion source in which a magnetic field of multi-cusp-like configuration are employed and is composed of pulse trains in which each pulse has a duration not longer than 10 sec. and preferably in a range of 1 to 100 msec. The high-energy beam serves to clean the surface of the workpiece and form a mixed layer at interface between the workpiece and the deposited film. A film having a high quality and a strong adhesion can be obtained.

    Abstract: A vertical mill, a classifier for the mill, and a controller for the classifier. The vertical mill includes a casing having a top plate, and the classifier is adjacent the top plate. Beneath the top plate, upon which impinges an upwardly moving gas and powdery material being supplied from the lower portion of the casing, are provided a plurality of rotary blades or rotary rods which have a vertical axis of rotation. A gap is provided between the rotary blades and the top plate, and an annular impingement member is suspended from the top of the casing to outwardly surround the plurality of rotary blades in such a way as to shield the gap. Further, an opening is provided adjacent the impingement member through which a portion of the gas and powdery material pass. The controller of the classifier includes means for adjusting the opening through which the powdery material passes.

    Abstract: A roller mill according to this invention includes a base and a table supported on the base, the table being adapted to be rotated on a generally vertical axis. The table has an annular groove formed in its top surface, the groove having a semicircular cross section. At least one roller is supported by the base above the table, each roller being rotatable on an axis which intersects with the vertical axis of the table. Each roller has an arcuate peripheral portion which forms part of a circle of curvature in cross section. The roller and the table rotate on their respective axes, and they are adapted to compress and mill material in the groove betweem them, a clearance which receives the material being formed between the peripheral portion of the roller and the groove.

    Abstract: A roller mill according to this invention includes a table adapted to be rotatably driven on a substantially vertical axis. The table is adapted to receive the material to be milled in a central area around the axis. The table has a substantially horizontal upper surface, and an annular groove is formed in the upper surface radially outwardly from the central area. The groove has a curved bottom surface. A least one roller is provided having an axis of rotation which is above the upper surface of the table and substantially intersects the table axis. The roller extends into and rolls in the groove and has an outer peripheral surface which is curved in cross section. The mill when in use has the table and the roller rotated, and the material extends into a clearance space formed between the peripheral surface of the roller and the bottom surface of the groove.

    Abstract: A compound of the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.5 each represents an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 each represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms and wherein the bonding at the 2-3 position is a single bond and that at the 3-4 position is a double when the substitution of hydroxy group is at the 5-position or the bonding at the 2-3 position is a double bond and that at the 3-4 position is a single bond when the substitution of hydroxy group is at the 7-position; with the proviso that R.sup.2 and R.sup.4 should not be a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group simultaneously and process for preparing same are disclosed. The compound is useful as a herbicide and fungicide and as an intermediate for preparing agricultural chemicals, etc.

    Abstract: In the process for obtaining a concentrate of resorcin by acid-decomposing m-diisopropylbenzene hydroperoxide in an inert solvent in the presence of an acidic solid catalyst and distilling off acetone and the inert solvent from the resulting acid-decomposition reaction mixture, if water is added to this reaction mixture in an amount of 20 to 70% by weight based on resorcin and the reaction mixture is then subjected to distillation, resorcin can be obtained at a high recovery yield.

    Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of an aromatic hydroperoxide by oxidizing a hydroxyalkyl-substituted aromatic compound having at least one hydroxyalkyl group directly bonded to an aromatic ring carbon of the aromatic compound and being represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each are a lower alkyl group, with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of an acid catalyst in a heterogeneous system of a water-immiscible inert aromatic hydrocarbon solvent at a reaction temperature of up to about 70.degree. C. while removing by-product water as an azeotrope with the aromatic hydrocarbon solvent in the oxidation system; characterized in that said oxidation is carried out while feeding a vapor of a water-immiscible inert aromatic hydrocarbon solvent having a temperature higher than the reaction temperature but not exceeding about 90.degree. C. into a liquid phase of the oxidation system.

C., and(b) about 0.1 to about 0.7 time the weight of resorcinol of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of alkyl phenols having a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group and acyl phenols derived from C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 aliphatic monocarboxylic acids.

    Abstract: A process for preparing a hydrocarbon resin which comprises copolymerizing (A) a hydrocarbon fraction boiling within the range of 130.degree. to 300.degree. C. obtained by cracking, reforming and/or refining petroleum with (B) dicyclopentadiene in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst in a proportion such that the resulting hydrocarbon resin contains, based on the total weight thereof, 20 to 80% of a unit derived from the dicyclopentadiene (B).A hydrocarbon resin having a number average molecular weight of 300 to 2500, a softening point of 40.degree. to 180.degree. C., a bromine number of 5 to 100 g/100 g, and a Gardner color hue of 5 to 17, prepared by the above process. This hydrocarbon resin is useful as an adhesive component of pressure-sensitive adhesives and hot-melt composition.

The aluminum alloys are made precipitation-hardenable by the incorporation therein of a precipitation-hardening component such as copper, zinc and/or magnesium, and the precipitation-hardening component can be contained in the mother alloy undergoing nitridation.
