During the assisted performance of a parking maneuver, the system controller receives one or more pieces of information from other controllers or units, which is continuously stored in the system controller. When restarting the internal combustion engine that has previously stalled during the ongoing parking maneuver, information previously stored by the system controller is accessed and forms the basis of a continued parking maneuver during a defined time interval, after which the assistance is once again based on current information acquired from the controllers or units.
