Abstract: A system and method for predicting remaining battery life for a portable information handling systems include determining power consumption for an OLED display based on an on pixel ratio (OPR) for each pixel. When a user starts a session of an application and a file, file metadata may be used to search a database storing OPR profiles, with each OPR profile including one or more time series associated with one or more instances of the application executing the file. For static files, a time series in an OPR profile may be used to predict power consumption and calculate battery life. For dynamic files, periodically measuring OPR data may be used to predict power consumption. For some dynamic files, historic OPR values and periodic measurements may be used to predict power consumption. The user may be provided with a list of files usable during the calculated battery life.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer-readable medium are disclosed for authentication users to information handling systems. A user's user biometric, heartbeat pattern, and heart rate information are acquired and registered to an information handling system. To access the information handling system, a user's biometric, heartbeat pattern, and heart rate information are acquired and compared to the registered information. Reacquiring and recalibrating is performed for the user biometric, heartbeat pattern, and heart rate information during a session on the information handling system.

Abstract: An information handling system includes a fan to cool a component of the information handling system, and a sensor device. The fan includes a first fan inlet, a second fan inlet, and a fan outlet. The fan is configured to draw air into the first and second fan inlets and to blow air out the fan outlet. The sensor device includes a sensor inlet, a sensor outlet, and a cover. The sensor is coupled to the fan with the first fan inlet collocated with the sensor outlet such that air drawn into the first fan inlet is first drawn through the sensor inlet. The cover is configured in a first position to cover the sensor inlet to permit no air flow through the sensor inlet and in a second position to uncover the sensor inlet to permit air to flow through the sensor inlet.

Abstract: An information handling system comprising a processor, memory, and a wireless network interface device and the processor executing an access point survey module to survey a plurality of access points distributed across the multi-channel communication network having a plurality of wireless protocol networks to, based on the type of wireless protocol network, determine and assign a numerical value to the access point characteristics based on access point related signal quality factors and data connection factors aggregate the numerical values associated with the factors for each access point and rank each access point based on an aggregated score and assign communication for a network slice from the wireless network interface to an access point channel based on the aggregated scores of the access point.

Abstract: A sensor measures an environmental factor in an ambient environment immediately surrounding an information handling system. A processor determines that the information handling system is in a first location, provides a first sampling frequency of the sensor based upon the first location, determines that the information handling system is in a second location, and provides a second sampling frequency of the sensor based upon the second location. The first sampling frequency is different from the second sampling frequency.

Abstract: A portable information handling system includes a physical keyboard that extends and retracts from within the system to outside of the system and a display that presents a virtual keyboard that moves synchronously with physical keyboard during retraction and extension. For example, as keys of the physical keyboard become visible or hidden by movement of the physical keyboard, the virtual keyboard slides across the display so that virtual keys are hidden or visible with the virtual keyboard in one example embodiment only showing virtual keys corresponding to hidden physical keys. In another example embodiment, the virtual keyboard accepts key inputs for hidden physical keys, which are disabled from accepting inputs.

Abstract: A portable information handling system main housing portion has a transparent cover removeably coupled at an upper surface and sealed with an inflatable seal to aid desired cooling airflow. A pump fills the inflatable seal after the transparent cover closes over the housing and deflates the inflatable seal before release of the transparent cover to an open position. In one embodiment, the transparent cover integrates a liquid crystal display that presents operating condition of processing components visible within the housing through the transparent cover.

Abstract: A portable information handling system executes an application, such as a game, that generates audio information for presentation at multiple speakers through multiple channels. An audio vector engine analyzes the channels to derive a direction and distance associated with the audio information so that a visual cue of the relative location of the origin of the audio information may be presented at a display. In one embodiment, the display is a secondary display having a transparent view into the information handling system. In another embodiment, the direction and distance to a sound origin is presented over a map of a game in which the sound originated, such as a shot fired in a game.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that may be implemented to manage display of content on a dual screen information handling system by recognizing dual-screen gestures and/or imparting touch awareness to at least a portion of a non-visual central region existing between the active visual areas of the two display screens of the dual screen system, e.g., between each visual area and a gap area and/or hinge area between the two display screens.

Abstract: A portable information handling system integrates an audio speaker having a speaker chamber with an adjustable volume so that audio output from the audio speaker is adapted based upon the selected audio chamber volume. For instance, the audio speaker has two housing portions sealed with a gasket that slide relative to each other change an audio chamber volume within which a transducer generates audible sounds, such as bass. The audio chamber volume may adjust based upon the information handling system housing rotational orientation, the type of audio played at the audible speaker, or other conditions.

Abstract: An information handling system comprising a processor and memory executing an evolved packet core to initiate a tiered communication network access policy by detecting the type of access point connections of an endpoint device to the communication network determining a tier assigned to the endpoint device, and determining communication channel availability, and conducting load balancing based on the tier assignment and to determine a communication channel among a plurality of communication channels to allow access. The evolved packet core to determine which access points within the network to facilitate particular endpoint device tiers of connection and reallocate endpoint device access to such an access point based on a number of endpoint devices coupled to the access point, the tier assigned to each of the endpoint devices, and network slice requirements for each endpoint device.

Abstract: An active stylus couples to an information handling system by a removable clip that inserts into a slot formed in the information handling system housing. Power to charge a battery of the active stylus passes from an interface internal to the information handling system, through the clip and to a charger in the active stylus. The active stylus clip releases the active stylus in the presence of excessive force to prevent damage to the information handling system and active stylus.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-usable medium are disclosed for implementing automated adjustment of extended desktop monitor configuration settings in an information handling system (IHS) based on acoustic analysis of audio emitted from a speaker of an extended desktop monitor and received at multiple microphones of the IHS. In certain embodiments, the multiple microphones are in fixed alignment with a built-in monitor of the IHS. As such, the audio received at the multiple microphones can be used to determine the position of the extended desktop monitor with respect to the built-in monitor. Various embodiments include corresponding computer-implemented methods, computer systems, apparatus, and computer programs recorded on one or more non-transient computer storage devices.

Abstract: A portable information handling system presents visual images at first and second displays integrated in first and second rotationally-coupled housing portions. When the housing portions rotate to a clamshell configuration, a keyboard disposed on one of the displays accepts keyed inputs and, to save power, backlight segments below the keyboard are powered down. The display can present information as visual images proximate the keyboard with illumination provided by other backlight segments or by a secondary light source that is presented in coordination with liquid crystal panel pixels transitioning to transparent and opaque states.

Abstract: A method for adjusting illumination of a user operating an information handling system may include capturing an image of the user's face using a camera at the information handling system. The method may further include determining lighting characteristics of the user's face based on the captured image. A border to be displayed surrounding a video image can be generated based on the determined lighting characteristics. The video image and the border can be displayed at a display device.

Abstract: Systems and methods provide haptic feedback within areas of keyboard using a single haptic device, while isolating the feedback to keys that are being pressed. A keyboard may include multiple key areas. Each key area includes a mechanical actuator. Each key area also includes a sensor layer located below a plurality of haptic key plates and located above the mechanical actuator. Each key area also includes a flexible membrane that dampens haptic feedback and separates each of the haptic key plates from neighboring key plates. Each key area also includes haptic key plates that each include one or more protrusions. When a key plate is pressed, protrusions of the pressed key plate contact the sensor layer to trigger activation of the mechanical actuator to generate haptic feedback. The protrusions of the pressed key plate transmit the generated haptic feedback from the mechanical actuator to the key plate.

Abstract: An information handling system communicates with external devices, such as a docking station, through a multi-protocol streaming cable, such as USB 3.0 (or greater) cable having a USB data protocol, a DisplayPort graphics protocol and a power transfer protocol. Upon detection of excessive errors at the cable, the multi-protocol stream is adjusted to maintain errors within an acceptable range and prioritize information transferred through one of the protocols. Adjustments may include changes to the number of data lanes assigned to each protocol, changes to the rate at which information is transferred with each protocol and changes to power transfer.

Abstract: An information handling system includes a display device, a user input device, and a processor. The processor communicates with the display device and with the user input device. The processor detects whether the user input device is in an idle state. In response to an initial detection of the user input device being in the idle state, the processor continually determines a power consumption of the display device. While the power consumption is continually determined, the processor determines whether a predetermined amount of energy has been consumed. In response to a predetermined amount of energy being consumed, the processor turns off the display device.

Abstract: A portable information handling system housing has a handle to aid an end user in carrying of the system. A heat pipe loop passes through the handle and couples to a processing component heat sink to transfer excess thermal energy from within the housing to the handle for rejection to the ambient environment. Thermal wax disposed in the handle stores energy with a phase change from a solid to a liquid state. A color indicator disposed on the handle provides an end user with an indication of a temperature of the handle.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and processor-readable storage media for implementing an intelligent network of distributed compute nodes are provided herein. An example computer-implemented method includes processing information pertaining to multiple compute nodes within a network of distributed compute nodes; mapping available compute nodes, within the network, having compute capabilities and bandwidth capabilities for executing compute tasks onto dedicated portions of the network; processing information pertaining to at least one compute task requested within the network, including determining at least bandwidth requirements for the compute task and latency requirements for the compute task; and performing, based on the mapping and the processed information pertaining to the compute task, at least one automated action pertaining to allocating at least a portion of the compute task to at least one of the available compute nodes within the network.
