Patent number: 11969353Abstract: The present disclosure relates to prosthesis systems having trays and liners having an asymmetrical locking mechanism to bias the strength of the liner to resist loading forces and associated methods. The tray has a lateral groove disposed in an inner surface of a lateral circumferential portion of the tray and a medial groove disposed in an inner surface of a medial circumferential portion of the tray. The liner has an upper segment and a lower segment. The liner has a locking portion for lockingly engaging the tray that includes the lower segment. The locking portion has a lateral toe positioned generally diametrically opposite a plurality of resiliently deformable medial fingers defined therein. The liner and the tray are engageable in a lateral-to-medial direction so that the plurality of medial fingers can resiliently deform to engage the medial groove subsequent to engagement of the lateral toe within the lateral groove.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 2020Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignee: Zimmer, Inc.Inventors: Steven Humphrey, James D. Wernle, Joanna Surma, Stephen H. Hoag, Donald W. Dye, Kenton A. Walz, Terry W. Wagner, Kathleen Macke, Duane Gillard, Brian D. Byrd, Ken Yamaguchi

Publication number: 20230137797Abstract: An implant can be implantable into a human body and can include a metallic substrate and a ceramic layer. The metallic substrate can be formed by additive manufacturing. The metallic substrate can be engageable with a bone. The metallic substrate can include an inner surface, an outer surface, and a plurality of retention features. The inner surface can define a plurality of pores configured to promote bone ingrowth into the metallic substrate. The plurality of retention features can include a proximal portion connected to the outer surface and the proximal portion can define a proximal width. The ceramic layer can be a bearing surface that can be spray coated to the metallic substrate and formed around the retention features to interlock the ceramic layer with the metallic substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2022Publication date: May 4, 2023Inventors: James D. Wernle, Steven Conrad, William Paul Rodgers, III, Tayler Kreider

Publication number: 20230113335Abstract: According to one example, a tibial prosthesis that can include a tibial bearing component, tibial baseplate, an insert and a fastener. The tibial bearing component can have medial and lateral proximal articular surfaces and an opposing distal surface. The tibial bearing component can define at least one recess therein with the recess having an opening at a periphery of the tibial bearing component. The tibial baseplate can be coupled to the tibial bearing component on the proximal surface thereof and having a distal surface configured to be disposed on a resected proximal surface of a tibia. The insert can be configured to be disposed within the recess and can engage the tibial baseplate and the tibial bearing component. The fastener can be insertable into the tibial bearing component and can be configured to retain the insert to the tibial baseplate.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2022Publication date: April 13, 2023Inventors: Brian D. Byrd, Kathleen Macke, Dwight T. Todd, James D. Wernle, Vanessa Croll, Jeff Blaylock, Abraham P. Habegger
