  • Patent number: 5771395
Abstract: The present invention discloses a system for processing data from scanned documents. The output from a scanner serves as input to a digital filter referred to as an event driven interface. The event driven interface is user-configured with bit patterns to identify and filter out user-designated information from a scanned document. Since only the designated information is extracted from the document, and not extraneous matter of the document, the subsequent storage of only the designated information saves computer memory. Furthermore, the designated information can be transmitted over a data communications network. Such a transmission will occupy less bandwidth than if the entire document was transmitted.

  • Patent number: 5476915
Abstract: Living polymer synthesis methods for the synthesis of oligomeric and high molecular weight polymers with low polydispersity are disclosed. The disclosed methods are based on the discovery that the reaction of a ylid with an organoborane at a high ylid:borane ratio and high temperature provides for the synthesis of high molecular weight polymers with low polydispersity.

  • Patent number: 4813477
Abstract: Apparatus including an expandable bellows having a pair of end plates, one plate being provided with a fluid inlet and the other plate being provided with a fluid outlet. A diffuser and filter is located within the bellows across the fluid path between the inlet and outlet. Thus, fluid at an elevated temperature entering the bellows must flow first through the diffuser, then through the filter before leaving the space within the bellows. In this way, the fluid is filtered before passing to and through the outlet. The expansion capability of the bellows provides a heat exchange relation between the fluid and the bellows itself. A pressure relief cap can be coupled to an outlet port communicating with the interior of the bellows. The inlet is adapted to be coupled to the waste line of a fluid pump of a hydrostatic system and the outlet is adapted to be coupled to the supply line of the fluid pump.

  • Patent number: 4684802
Abstract: A scanner for scanning an increased area of a finger held or pressed on a concave elliptically cylindrical surface having two focal axes includes a linear light source positioned at one focal axis of a first reflective cylindrical elliptical surface, the other focal axis coinciding with one focal axis of the concave elliptical surface in contact with the finger. A second reflective, cylindrical elliptical surface has two focal axes where one of the axes coincides with the position of a linear array combination of photosensitive elements and charged coupled devices and the other coincides with the other focal axis of the concave elliptical surface in contact with the finger.

  • Patent number: 4344691
Abstract: Erase apparatus for use in an electrophotographic copier machine where an array of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is placed adjacent a plano-convex-cylindrical entrance end of an optical element such that light rays from the LED array are directed through the optical element to its exit end. At the convex-cylindrical exit end, the light rays are directed to the photoconductive surface of the machine. The optical element directs the more intense light rays emitted from the LEDs near the central axis to the edges of the erasure footprint while the less intense rays emitted from the LEDs at larger angles from the central axis are redistributed to the central portion of the erasure footprint.

  • Patent number: 4255042
Abstract: Erase apparatus for use in an electrophotographic copier machine where an array of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are placed adjacent one end of a light channel with the other end adjacent a moving photoreceptive surface. The channel allows light rays to pass freely from LED to LED but contains the rays in a direction parallel to the direction of photoreceptor movement. The channel may be comprised of sides with reflective surfaces normal to the photoreceptive surface or may be a solid plastic sheet through which the rays pass. In the latter embodiment, rays are internally reflected from the surfaces of the plastic sheet.
