  • Patent number: 6590880
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating handover of communications between a source radio gateway and a target radio gateway of a packet radio communication system. Subsequent to handover of communications from the source to the target radio gateways, a default frame is generated at the target gateway. The default frame is forwarded to a communication station operable pursuant to a communication session with a mobile station, the communication session of which has been handed over from the source to the target radio gateway. The default frame identifies, to the communication station, the identity of the target gateway. Thereby, the communication station is informed that the target gateway is the address to which additional data generated at the communication station is to be routed.

  • Patent number: 6522205
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for adjusting an oscillator (44), a packet switched network (21) locating between the oscillator and a specified time source (31), which knows a clock time with a specified accuracy. In the method, a clock (42), which is on the same side of the packet switched network (21) as the adjustable oscillator (44), is updated over the packet switched network (21) on the basis of the clock time known to said time source (31). Said clock (42) is used in the adjustment of the oscillator (44) for making the oscillator (44) to oscillate at a desired frequency. The invention also relates to an apparatus and computer software for adjusting the oscillator. (FIG.

  • Publication number: 20020147008
Abstract: A network architecture for Wireless Intranet Office (WIO) applications including a local radio network such as a wireless local area network (WLAN) which comprises a Wireless Mobile Center (WMC) arranged to serve as a WLAN access point; a GSM network which comprises a Mobile Station (MS) in a form of a dual-mode cellular phone to access both WLAN and GSM radio technologies, a Base Station (BS) arranged to convert a radio signal from the Mobile Station (MS) for communication, a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) arranged to establish call connection; and a Handover Module implemented in either the Mobile Station (MS) or the Wireless Mobile Center (WMC) for providing seamless mobility between the GSM network and the wireless LAN, when the Mobile Station (MS) roams between the GSM network and the wireless LAN.

  • Patent number: 6408184
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for performing cell selection in a packet radio communication system, such as a WIO (wireless intranet office) system. Indications of the quality of communications through a packet data network to which a base transceiver station is coupled is provided to a mobile terminal. When the mobile terminal is positioned at a location in which the mobile terminal can camp-on a selected one of more than one base transceiver stations, determination of which of the more than one base transceiver stations to which the mobile terminal should camp-on is made responsive, at least in part, to values of the quality of the packet data network.
