  • Publication number: 20070071168
Abstract: An apparatus and method for optimizing a workspace of a radiation treatment delivery system. An optimized treatment plan is generated for delivering a dose of radiation to a volume of interest (“VOI”) in a patient using fewer changes to a treatment plan parameter during delivery of the dose of radiation then available to a radiation treatment delivery system. The optimized treatment plan limits a number of adjustments to the treatment plan parameter during delivery of the dose of radiation. Prior to delivery, the optimized treatment plan is analyzed to determine whether a quality of the optimized treatment plan is acceptable.

  • Patent number: 7166852
Abstract: A wireless treatment target positioning system for therapeutic radiation treatment includes a patient positioning system and a treatment target locating system. The treatment target locating system includes a room beam coordinate system and a localizing system. The room beam coordinate system includes devices for generating laser beams intersecting at a single point that is spatially coincident with an iso-center of the treatment system. The localizing system includes a movable reference object and a localizer for detecting and determining the position of the movable reference object. A method of positioning a treatment target to the iso-center of the treatment system includes a simulation process and real treatment positioning process. The simulation process includes positioning the treatment target to an iso-center of a simulation system and marking intersection points where laser beams intersect with an exterior of the patient's body.

  • Publication number: 20060036162
Abstract: Intraoperative image(s) of a patient target site are generated by an intraoperative imaging system (e.g., ultrasound or X-ray). The intraoperative imaging system is tracked with respect to the patient target site and surgical instrument(s) (e.g., a pointer, endoscope or other intraoperative video or optical device). The intraoperative images, surgical instruments, and patient target site are registered into a common coordinate system. Spatial feature(s) of the patient target site are indicated on the images of the patient target site. Indicia relating the position and orientation of the surgical instrument(s) to the spatial feature(s) of the patient target site are projected on the images, with the indicia being used to correlate the position and orientation of the surgical instruments with respect to the target feature.
