Also disclosed herein are methods for making up and/or enhancing the appearance of a keratinous substrate comprising (1) forming a film on the keratinous substrate by applying to said keratinous substrate a cosmetic composition comprising (a) at least one polyvinyl alcohol-styrylpyridinium polymer and (2) at least one latex film-forming polymer and (2) exposing the film to radiation chosen from UV and visible light radiation.

Abstract: Disclosed are oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions comprising (a) an aqueous dispersion of particles of at least one latex chosen from an acrylate latex, a polyurethane latex, or a silicone latex, and (b) an oil phase, wherein the aqueous dispersion of particles of at least one latex is present in the O/W emulsion in an amount sufficient to stabilize the O/W emulsion. The disclosure also relates to hair styling and/or shaping compositions comprising the O/W emulsions, methods of making the compositions, and methods of styling and/or shaping the hair.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods and compositions for providing at least broad spectrum photo protection to skin, which includes protection from at least infrared (IR) radiation and/or visible light. The methods typically entail applying to skin a cosmetic composition comprising: (a) one or more antioxidants selected from the group consisting of baicalin, Venuceane™, ferulic acid, polydatin, silymarin, punica granatum extract, mango leaf extract, soliprin, catechin, hesperetin, astilbin, and DHC V; (b) optionally, one or more solubilizers; and (c) a cosmetically acceptable carrier; wherein the combination of (a), optional (b), and (c) alone, provide at least broad spectrum protection from both infrared (IR) radiation and visible light. UV filters can also optionally be included to provide additional protection from UV light.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods of preparing stable O/W emulsions by silicic acid complexation of micron-sized oil droplets, and stable emulsions prepared by silicic acid complexation. Compositions and products comprising the emulsions are also disclosed. Emulsions may be stable over an extended period of time at room temperature.
