  • Publication number: 20120294266
Abstract: An approach is provided for supporting transmission in a multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) communication system including a plurality of terminals. A preamble portion of a frame is transmitted by a multiple transmit antennas of a hub using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) to the terminals over a channel, wherein each of the terminals determines a characteristic of the channel with respect to the transmit antennas as feedback information. The hub receives the feedback information from the terminals. The hub selects, according to the feedback information, a subset of the antennas for transmission of a remaining portion of the frame to the terminal.

  • Publication number: 20120112721
Abstract: A synthetic ripple regulator including frequency control based on a reference clock. The regulator includes an error network, a ripple detector, a combiner, a ripple generator, a comparator network and a phase comparator. The error network provides an error signal indicative of relative error of the output voltage. The ripple detector provides a ramp control signal based on the input and output voltages and a pulse control signal. The combiner adjusts the ramp control signal based on a frequency compensation signal to provide an adjusted ramp control signal. The ripple generator develops a ripple control signal based on the adjusted ramp control signal. The comparator network develops the pulse control signal to control switching based on the error signal and the ripple control signal. The phase comparator compares the pulse control signal with the reference clock and provides the frequency compensation signal.

  • Publication number: 20110158308
Abstract: A system and method is described for transmitting and receiving terrestrial and mobile services in one spectrum in a Digital Terrestrial Television Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB) terrestrial network compatible with conventional terrestrial receivers. Terrestrial service data and mobile service data to be broadcast are provided. The packet headers for the mobile service data are scrambled and the terrestrial service data is scrambled. The terrestrial service data and mobile service data is multiplexed together to form multiplexed terrestrial service data and mobile service data. The multiplexed terrestrial service data and mobile service data is received at a terrestrial DTMB receiver which distinguishes the terrestrial service data from the mobile service data on the basis of packet headers. At a mobile DTMB receiver, the multiplexed terrestrial service data and mobile service data is received and control frames are used to distinguish the terrestrial service data from the mobile service data.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of dynamical frequency selecting for a basic service set established by a main wireless device in a wireless local area network. The method comprises steps of a determining step for determining whether a new channel to be used by said BSS is needed; a scanning step conducted by said main wireless device for scanning all channels based on a random priority to detect whether other adjacent BSSs are existing and performing DFS concurrently; a measuring step conducted by said main wireless device based on the scanning result for exisitn operational BSSs for measuring channel quality of a plurality of channels; selecting one channel based on the channel quality parameters. The present invention advantageously provides a dynamic frequency selection method without any modification for the IEEE 802.11 standard, or any requirement for the implementation of the wireless stations.

  • Publication number: 20030137975
Abstract: A passive optical network (PON) carries both telephony traffic and packet-based traffic, each in their native format i.e. without any processing (such as segmentation and reassembly) of either kind of traffic. Specifically, an optical line terminal (OLT) transmits in a time slot of fixed duration (e.g. 125 microseconds or a fraction thereof) a provisionable number (e.g. 0 to 8) frames of fixed size (e.g. T1 frames or E1 frames) in one portion of the time slot, and also transmits a number of frames of variable size in a remaining portion of the time slot. In several embodiments of the invention, the optical line terminal (OLT) determines in real time an integral number of variable size frames that can be transmitted, based on the size of each variable size frame that has been received and is awaiting transmission, and also based on the number of fixed size frames that have been provisioned for the time slot.

  • Patent number: 6446152
Abstract: Methods and systems for transmitting data over a printed circuit board such as a backplane for example, are provided. The printed circuit board has a number of primary tracks each connected to receive a data stream from a respective transmitter which may be located on a card connected to the printed circuit board for example. The data streams are offset in time with respect to one another such that rising edges and falling edges do not coincide with each other in time. The primary tracks are all coupled electromagnetically to a single coupling track at another location on the printed circuit board, and the coupling track is connected to a receiver which may be located on another card for example. The transmitted data streams are all coupled electromagnetically onto the coupling track with each rising edge of any of the data streams resulting in a positive pulse in a coupled signal, and each falling edge of any of the data streams resulting in a negative pulse in the coupled signal.

  • Patent number: 6351240
Abstract: An approach for electronically performing beam steering is disclosed. For electronic scanning, an n-bit quantized phase shifting approach is employed at each array element of a phased array antenna. By applying an initial phase bias, either deterministically or randomly, in each of the array elements, the performance of a phased array with n-bit quantization (even with n=2) approaches the performance of a system with no quantization. This approach can be used with linearly polarized or circularly polarized waves. For circularly polarized waves, the 2n phase shifts required of n-bit quantization are achieved in a manner that provides a simple, low-loss construction, which allows production of a low-cost reflectarray or a flat-plate lens.
