  • Patent number: 9148825
Abstract: A method includes performing a handover for a mobile device between first and second RAT networks. The first RAT network has a tracking area. The second RAT network has a routing area. Idle mode signaling reduction is activated in the mobile device including activating first and second timers respectively for the first and second RAT networks. In response to either one of the first and second timers expiring, a tracking or routing area update is sent to a first base station. The first base station is in the first RAT network or the second RAT network. The first timer is reset while the second timer maintains a set offset from the first timer. The tracking area update indicates that the mobile device has performed a handover to the first RAT network. The routing area update indicates that the mobile device has handed over to the second RAT network.

  • Patent number: 8982828
Abstract: Communication circuitry that employs persistent scheduling conventionally uses one initiation command to establish the modulation and coding scheme (“MCS”) that will be used for transmission of subsequent payload bursts, at least until it is time to send another initiation command. Inefficiency can result if transmission channel conditions change between initiation commands. To avoid such inefficiency, the disclosed circuitry maintains a count of unsuccessful transmission attempts. When the count deviates from a predetermined reference standard, the circuitry automatically and autonomously makes an appropriate change in the MCS selection without waiting for the next initiation command. Both transmitter and receiver circuits independently operate in the same way at the same time so that both ends of a communication link remain coordinated with one another.

  • Patent number: 8958287
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for directing a beam towards a receiving device in the presence of interference. A beam transmitted by a transmission source is received at a receiving device. The received beam is affected by an interference signal from an interfering source. The receiving device computes a covariance matrix that represents a channel estimate associated with the interfering source. The receiving device modifies a predetermined sounding signal based on the covariance matrix for transmission to the transmission source. The receiving device causes the transmission source to estimate an equivalent channel matrix based on the predetermined sounding signal and the modified predetermined sounding signal. The equivalent channel matrix represents the channel estimate associated with the interfering source and a channel estimate associated with the transmission source.

  • Patent number: 8949683
Abstract: A system including a first receiver to receive a first signal including a first set of codewords and to generate a first set of decoded codewords by decoding one or more codewords of the first set of codewords. A first interference canceller measures first reliability metrics of codewords corresponding to the first set of decoded codewords and selects a second set of decoded codewords from the first set of decoded codewords based on the first reliability metrics. An encoder generates an encoded signal by encoding the second set of decoded codewords. A modulator generates a second signal by modulating the encoded signal. A subtractor subtracts a portion of the second signal from the first signal to cancel interference of first codewords corresponding to the second set of decoded codewords on codewords other than the first codewords in the first set of codewords in the first signal.
