Abstract: Presented is a method of displaying a newly requested channel in a mobile TV device prior to retuning the mobile TV device to the newly selected channel. The mobile TV device demodulator and tuner are cycled on for a short period of time at regular intervals to conserve battery power. Data is buffered from multiple channels in a buffer within the mobile TV device while the demodulator is cycled on. The mobile TV device displays data from one of the buffered channels upon a request to switch to the channel prior to retuning the mobile TV device to the newly selected channel. The mobile TV device is then retuned to the newly selected channel at the next instance the demodulator and tuner are cycled on.

Abstract: An image processing system identifies desired views of a particular subject and triggers a mobile camera device in proximity to the subject to capture a digital image, thus collecting new image data to augment an existing database. In an exemplary method, location data for a camera-equipped mobile communication device in visual proximity to a subject of interest is received at an image collection server. Upon determining whether the location data corresponds to a desired view of the subject of interest, the image collection server sends an image capture request to the mobile device, triggering the user of the device to capture an image of the subject. Finally, digital image data is received from the mobile communication device in response to the image capture request. The digital image data may then be used for assembling a composite representation of the subject of interest, such as a 3D model of the subject.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods and apparatuses for verifying that a transaction is legitimate. The methods and apparatuses use protected memory space, such as kernel space of an operating system, or a separate memory space, such as is available on a SIM card of a cellular phone. The method of the invention proceeds by creating a transaction identification string (TID) and associating the TID with a transaction. The TID contains data relevant to or associated with the transaction and is typically readable by an end-user. The transaction is then interrupted until a user responds in the affirmative to allow completion of the transaction. Methods and devices used in the invention are particularly well suited to M-commerce, where transactions originating from a device are typically recognized by a merchant as coming from the owner of the device without further authentication.

Abstract: A mobile device that includes an antenna, an interface, and an application. The antenna is capable of receiving a signal. The interface is capable of receiving a second signal in synchronization with the signal and the application is configured to perform receive diversity processing using the signal and the second signal. Further, is included a mobile device that includes the antenna, the interface, and a second application where the second application is configured to perform multiple input multiple output (MIMO) processing using the signal and the second signal. Increased bandwidth and processing gain is achieved for the received signal by the receive diversity processing and the MIMO processing.

Abstract: Disclosed is a portable mobile communications device that can view a scrambled alternate version of a mobile television program broadcast by a mobile television service provider. The portable mobile communications device includes a mobile television receiver capable of receiving broadcasts from a mobile television service provider. A processor in the portable mobile communications device executes an alternate broadcast application that is communicable with the mobile television service provider. The portable mobile communications device and the mobile television service provider exchange PIN code data that when verified will cause the portable mobile communications device to receive a decode algorithm that can descramble the scrambled alternate version of a mobile television program broadcast by a mobile television service provider.

Abstract: A portable mobile communications device for controlling the destination of mobile TV programs broadcast by a mobile TV service provider includes a mobile TV device, a processor running a mobile TV redirect application communicable with the mobile TV service provider, and a user interface for controlling the mobile TV device and the mobile TV redirect application such that mobile TV broadcast programs can be simultaneously redirected to an external device in response to input received by the user interface and sent to the mobile TV service provider. The external device can include a home media server or a computer coupled to and communicable with the mobile TV service provider via the Internet.

Abstract: A handheld electronic device, such as a mobile terminal, a personal digital assistant, an ultraportable computer and/or a media player, includes a touch sensor, such as a sensor used for fingerprint sensing. A control circuit of the device is configured to support user operation of the handheld electronic device as a musical instrument that uses the touch sensor as a control input of the musical instrument. For example, the control circuit may be configured to dynamically alter an audio signal produced by the musical instrument responsive to contact with the touch sensor, e.g., to control a tone and/or a volume of the audio signal. For example, the control circuit may be configured to cause the handheld electronic device to emulate a stringed instrument wherein contact with the touch sensor corresponds to contact with the strings of the emulated stringed instrument.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for distributing multimedia files units are disclosed. In an exemplary method, a plurality of multimedia files are downloaded using a transportation provider wireless device associated with a fare-based transport vehicle, such as a taxi, bus, ferry, or airplane. The downloaded multimedia files are stored in a data storage unit operatively connected to the transportation provider wireless device. In response to passenger input data received from a passenger wireless device, a desired multimedia file selected by the passenger is transferred to the passenger wireless device or played back using local speakers and/or video displays. In some embodiments, a selected multimedia file is associated with digital rights management information regulating authorized uses of the file.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for distributing multimedia files to wireless-equipped subscriber units are disclosed. In an exemplary method, a multimedia title is associated with a subscriber unit and a multimedia file corresponding to that multimedia title is downloaded to a roving file server using a broadband communications link. After the roving file server detects that it is within range of a wireless transceiver associated with the subscriber unit, the multimedia file is transferred to the subscriber unit using the detected wireless transceiver.

Abstract: A system and method of redistributing power output by a portable mobile communications device while operating in dual transfer mode (DTM) is disclosed. The device determines if more than one uplink slot is active and if DTM is active. If so, power can be separately regulated for packet switched and carrier switched uplink slots. The device determines whether the circuit switched slot is being used for a voice call that is not in a handsfree or speakerphone mode and evaluates factors associated with the current operating conditions. New power settings are calculated based on the mode for the active circuit switched slot and the factors associated with the current operating conditions of the device. The new power settings are then applied to the active uplink slots such that power is re-distributed on a per slot basis that is not necessarily divided equally among all active slots.

The invention includes a user interface that enables users to requesting and receiving health information request forms, to enter and viewing the information regarding the request, to enter and view status information regarding a request, to enter and view information regarding the lawsuit information, and to enter and view health information. The information is provided and received as a function of the user interface over a communication network such that requests for health information can be facilitated.
