  • Patent number: 8884984
Abstract: A system that includes a head mounted display device and a processing unit connected to the head mounted display device is used to fuse virtual content into real content. In one embodiment, the processing unit is in communication with a hub computing device. The system creates a volumetric model of a space, segments the model into objects, identifies one or more of the objects including a first object, and displays a virtual image over the first object on a display (of the head mounted display) that allows actual direct viewing of at least a portion of the space through the display.

  • Patent number: 8641576
Abstract: In a continuously-variable-ratio-device of the type having races between which drive is transferred by rollers which are movable in accordance with changes of variator ratio, it is necessary to apply a traction load urging the rollers and races into engagement. Each rollers is also subject to a transverse reaction force by a hydraulic reaction roller actuator receiving a controlled reaction pressure. It is desirable to create a relationship between traction and reaction force, and also to provide for adjustment of this relationship. In the present invention this is achieved hydraulically. A traction pressure related to the reaction pressure is applied to an actuator which creates the traction load. The hydraulics also include a working chamber, which is selectively connectable to and disconnectable from either (or both) of (i) the reaction pressure and (ii) the traction pressure, the traction force being dependent upon pressure in the working chamber.

  • Patent number: 8384700
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for controlling a display device for displaying a user interface associated with an application. A processor for controlling peripheral devices and/or the display may be selected based on characteristics of a requested function to be performed. For example, a processor may be selected with a power characteristic corresponding to a power level needed to perform the requested function. Also, an instantiation of a user interface may be switched based on selection of the processor for controlling peripheral devices. In another example, the transition from one instantiation of the user interface to another instantiation of the user interface may be smooth such that a user may be unaware a change has been made.

  • Publication number: 20130044130
Abstract: The technology provides contextual personal information by a mixed reality display device system being worn by a user. A user inputs person selection criteria, and the display system sends a request for data identifying at least one person in a location of the user who satisfy the person selection criteria to a cloud based application with access to user profile data for multiple users. Upon receiving data identifying the at least one person, the display system outputs data identifying the person if he or she is within the field of view. An identifier and a position indicator of the person in the location is output if not. Directional sensors on the display device may also be used for determining a position of the person. Cloud based executing software can identify and track the positions of people based on image and non-image data from display devices in the location.

  • Publication number: 20120278904
Abstract: A content presentation system and method allowing content providers to regulate the presentation of content on a per-user-view basis. Content is distributed an associated license option on the number of individual consumers or viewers allowed to consume the content. Consumers are presented with a content selection and a choice of licenses allowing consumption of the content. The users consuming the content on a display device are monitored so that if the number of user-views licensed is exceeded, remedial action may be taken.

  • Patent number: 8271243
Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for integrating petroleum system and geomechanical computer models for use in oil and gas exploration. In one embodiment, the invention provides a petroleum system model capable of analyzing data relating to a subterranean formation and calculating the geometry and geochemistry of each layer of the formation through geologic time. The present invention also provides a geomechanical model in communication with the petroleum system model such that information concerning each layer of the subterranean formation may be shared and cross-referenced as an iterative operation prior to the analysis of subsequent layers. At each step of the iterative operation, results are calculated, validated, and cross-referenced in order to produce improved reliability estimates of petroleum charge and mechanical seal integrity for the subterranean formation.

  • Publication number: 20120213212
Abstract: A system and method for analyzing, summarizing, and transmitting life experiences captured using a life recorder is described. A life recorder is a recording device that continuously captures life experiences, including unanticipated life experiences, in video and/or audio recordings. In some embodiments, the video and/or audio recordings generated by a life recorder are automatically summarized, indexed, and stored for future use. By indexing and storing life recordings, a life recorder may search for and acquire life recordings generated by itself or another life recorder, thereby allowing life experiences to be shared minutes or even years later. In some embodiments, recordings generated by a life recorder may be analyzed in real-time and automatically pushed to one or more target devices. The ability to automatically and instantaneously push life recordings as live feeds to one or more target devices allows friends and family to experience one's life experience in real-time.

  • Publication number: 20120165964
Abstract: An audio/visual system (e.g., such as an entertainment console or other computing device) plays a base audio track, such as a portion of a pre-recorded song or notes from one or more instruments. Using a depth camera or other sensor, the system automatically detects that a user (or a portion of the user) enters a first collision volume of a plurality of collision volumes. Each collision volume of the plurality of collision volumes is associated with a different audio stem. In one example, an audio stem is a sound from a subset of instruments playing a song, a portion of a vocal track for a song, or notes from one or more instruments. In response to automatically detecting that the user (or a portion of the user) entered the first collision volume, the appropriate audio stem associated with the first collision volume is added to the base audio track or removed from the base audio track.

  • Publication number: 20120053240
Abstract: A method of administering beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyric acid (HMB) is described, and specifically administering HMB-acid to a person such that the administration of free acid HMB results in an increase in effectiveness of HMB over administration of other forms of HMB, including a calcium salt HMB composition is described. Administration of HMB-acid results in an increase in the peak level of HMB in plasma compared with administration of a similar dose of a calcium salt HMB composition. Administration of HMB-acid results in a faster time to reach peak plasma levels of HMB relative to administration of a similar dosage of a calcium salt HMB composition.

  • Publication number: 20110147329
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-efficiency load transportation system for use in the building construction industry. The system utilises a hoisting apparatus (18) installed in an upper story of a building (14) and at least one retractable loading platform (20) removably installable on an underlying storey such that it may extend beyond an edge of the floor of the underlying storey. An arm (24) of the hoisting apparatus may extend beyond a distal end of a retracted underlying loading platform to allow the unimpeded vertical lifting and/or lowering of loads beyond the platform. The hoisting apparatus is used to position each loading platforms on its underlying and reposition each loading platform thereafter. Such an arrangement yields significant reductions in load in/load out times and associated costs. The system also reduces the carbon footprint of the building project by reducing traditional tower crane usage.

  • Publication number: 20110105272
Abstract: In a continuously-variable-ratio-device (“variator”) of the type having races (12, 14, 26, 102) between which drive is transferred by rollers (28) which are movable in accordance with changes of variator ratio, it is necessary to apply a traction load urging the rollers and races into engagement. A traction pressure related to the reaction pressure is applied to an actuator (72, 100) which creates the traction load.
