  • Publication number: 20170021276
Abstract: A system and method for executing an instance of an online game to facilitate participation of the user in the online game. The system and method include executing actions in the instance of the online game that are delayed from reception of corresponding action requests by wait times associated with the actions. The system and method include effectuating presentation of speed-up quest offers to the user for wait times that are open. The system and method include detecting successful performance of speed-up quests by the user in the online game and implementing speed-ups associated with the speed-up quest offers on open wait times in the online game in response to successful performance of offered speed-up quests by the user in the online game. The system and method include in response to detection of successful performance of the first quest in the online game during the first open wait time implementing a first speed-up by reducing the first open wait time.

  • Patent number: 9553186
Abstract: Embodiments of a manufacturing process for recessed gate devices on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrate with self-aligned lateral isolation are described. This allows the creation of true in-pitch recessed gate devices without requiring an extra isolation dimension. A lateral isolation trench is formed between pairs of recessed gate devices by etching the silicon-on-insulator area down to a buried oxide layer on which the silicon-on-insulator layer is formed. The position of the trench is self-aligned and defined by the gate width and the dimension of spacers disposed on either side of the gate. The isolation trench is filled with a dielectric material and then etched back to the middle of the SOI body and the remaining volume is filled with a doped conductive material. The doped conductor is subject to a thermal cycle to create source and drain regions of the device through out-diffusion of the doped material.

  • Patent number: 9539512
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating player interaction with sets of virtual tiles in a game space are disclosed. A set of virtual tiles may be provided for player interaction such that a player may be enabled to engage the non-player entity (or entities) associated with the individual tiles in the set of virtual tiles using a set of resources granted to the player. The player may be enabled to allocate a subset of the granted resources to engage a given tile in the set. An outcome of the engagement may be determined stochastically or quasi-stochastically. The player may be enabled to interact with the next tile in the set upon defeating the non-player entity (or entities) associated with the previous tile. Upon the player defeating the non-player entity (or entities) associated with the last tile in the set, a prize may be awarded to the player.

  • Patent number: 9539502
Abstract: A method and system for facilitating chance-based payment for items in a game. In implementations, the disclosure relates to such systems which can be used in the payment for items in an affiliation based game. A user may be part of an affiliation and wish to contribute to their affiliation and show their loyalty in a non-direct manner. The contribution may be achieved by the user entering into a chance-based selection process such as a draw, where the user selected in the draw is the person that pays for a group virtual item used in the game. The item used in the game may benefit all members of the affiliation, simultaneously or in alternating fashion.

  • Publication number: 20160361656
Abstract: A system and method for providing virtual items to users of an online game operated in a virtual space. Multiple users may participate in affiliations or alliances of discrete groups of users in an online game and may access the online game through client computing platforms associated with the users. The affiliations may have affiliation game units associated with affiliations which provide a benefit to the members of the online game. Affiliation members may cumulatively obtain affiliation game units and/or upgrade affiliation game units by providing one or more virtual items. Upgrading affiliation game units may require the cooperation of multiple members of the affiliation.

  • Publication number: 20160364950
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating resource requirement reduction in an online game are disclosed. Instances of resource requirement reduction items may be offered for purchase in an online store associated with the online game. A given resource requirement reduction item may be configured to reduce a type of game action requirements for game actions requested by a player during a corresponding time period subsequent to the activation of the instance of the resource requirement reduction item by the player. The player may activate a purchased instance of the requirement reduction item in the online game to reduce the game action requirements specified in the instance.

  • Patent number: 9517405
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating cross-game content access are disclosed. A set of content may be gated by a non-player character in a first online game. Access to the set of content may be granted in the first online game upon user defeating the non-player character or a character corresponding to the non-player character in a second online game. A notification may be generated in the first online game when a user encounters the non-player character in the first online game. The notification may include information indicating that the non-player character may be defeated in the second online game. In some examples, the non-player character in the first online game may share the same entity state with the corresponding character in the second online game such that they may appear as if there were the same character in the first and second online games.

  • Patent number: 9517403
Abstract: A system and method for rewarding user creation of customized virtual items are disclosed. Rewards may be determined for distribution to a user creator of customized virtual item based on reviews by other users of a virtual space. The reward determination may be based on the user reviews breaching at least one reward criteria. In some examples, the reward criteria may include a number of votes indicating whether the user reviewers like or dislike the customized virtual item created by the user creator. In some examples, the customized virtual item under review may include a customized virtual space race car. In some instances, reviews may be received for the customized virtual space race car for determination of a reward separate and distinct from a reward based on a race result achieved in a virtual space car race.

  • Publication number: 20160346677
Abstract: Approaches to facilitating chance-based wait time reductions are provided. A first action may be executed in a game space in response to receiving a first action request from a first user. The first action may be associated with a first wait time. The first wait time may prevent execution of corresponding actions for an amount of time after the reception of the first action request. An item instance of a first wait time reduction item may reduce a wait time associated with an executed action in the game space by a reduction time upon activation. The first wait time for the first action may be reduced by a first reduction time responsive to activation of a first item instance by the first user for the first action. The first reduction time may not be apparent to the first user prior to the activation of the first item instance.

  • Publication number: 20160200024
Abstract: A screw-driven extrusion system includes a novel screw-drive extruder. The extruder includes a motor-driven screw. The screw moves solid pellets from a feed hopper into a section that is actively heated. The solid pellets fully liquefy as they pass through the heated section. A control system controls screw, heating, and optionally cooling, operations to selectively control flow of liquefied material from the extruder's tip. The dynamically-controlled can continuously adjust its feed speed and temperature to keep up with continuously changing demands of a larger control system involved in monitoring and running a corresponding 3-D printer in an additive manufacturing process. In contrast to wirefeed extrusion systems that rely on the rigidity of the material in “wire”-formed feedstock, this screw-driven extrusion system is well-suited to use of less-rigid thermoplastic elastomers for the manufacture of objects for use in soft robotics, medical and mold-making applications.

  • Patent number: 9380120
Abstract: Techniques are described for providing location-based information and functionality to people and computing devices in various ways. In at least some situations, the techniques include enabling multiple people in a common geographic area to interact in various ways, such as via devices capable of communications (e.g., cellular telephones, computing devices with wired and/or wireless communications capabilities, etc.), while in other situations at least some users who are remote from a particular geographic area may be allowed to intercommunicate with one or more other users or other entities in or related to that geographic area. In addition, the techniques include enabling the creation and maintenance of location-based virtual groups of users (also referred to as “clouds”), such as for users of mobile and/or fixed-location devices. Such clouds may enable various types of interactions between group members, and may be temporary and/or mobile.
