  • Patent number: 9868399
Abstract: Remote controlled electric mirrors include a main frame, housing horizontal and vertical electrical ram actuators. The body portion of each actuator is pivotally mounted to the main frame. The main frame includes clamp brackets on its lower side, for mounting to support arms extending from a motor vehicle. An elongated swivel member is pivotally mounted to the front of the main frame, for rotation about a horizontal axis. A movable portion of the vertical actuator is pivotally connected to the swivel member. The swivel member includes an upper pin and a lower pin. An upper bracket on the rear of the mirror frame includes an aperture, slip-fitted over the upper pin. An apertured clamp is slip-fitted over the lower pin, and bolted to a lower bracket on the mirror frame. • Publication number: 20170348146
Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed herein that generally involve applying thermal therapy to tissue (e.g., localized cooling or heating of tissue), and in particular applying thermal therapy to the spinal canal, tissue disposed within the spinal canal, and/or nerve roots extending from the spinal canal. In some embodiments, tissue can be cooled or heated by implanting a malleable or deformable thermal device in proximity to the targeted tissue. The thermal device can be left in place following surgery to facilitate application of post-surgical thermal therapy. In some embodiments, the thermal device can be removed post-surgery in a minimally- or non-invasive manner. The thermal device can be connectionless or can include penetrable regions, pre-attached tubing, or detachable connectors to facilitate application of cooling or heating means to the device. Methods are disclosed for utilizing thermal devices and for carrying out various treatment regimens that involve cooling or heating tissue using such devices.

  • Patent number: 9814230
Abstract: Methods and systems of maintaining, evaluating, and providing therapy to a lung ex vivo. The methods and systems involve positioning the lung in an ex vivo perfusion circuit; circulating a perfusion fluid through the lung, the fluid entering the lung through a pulmonary artery interface and leaving the lung through a left atrial interface; and ventilating the lung by flowing a ventilation gas through a tracheal interface. Maintaining the lung for extended periods involves causing the lung to rebreath a captive volume of air, and reaching an equilibrium state between the perfusion fluid and the ventilation gas. Evaluating the gas exchange capability of the lung involves deoxygenating the perfusion fluid and measuring a time taken to reoxygenate the perfusion fluid by ventilating the lung with an oxygenation gas.

  • Publication number: 20170035465
Abstract: A device for connecting two spinal rods is provided. In one form, the device includes two clamping devices for receiving and locking to spinal rods and a central bridge or plate member that couples the clamping devices. In one aspect, the clamping devices are unitary members with deflectable jaw portions that snap-fit and then locked by operation of actuators. In another aspect, one or both of the clamping devices are adjustably coupled to the central bridge or plate member to allow at least translation and pivoting or rotation of the clamping devices relative to a central axis of the elongate bridge member. The clamping devices may be coupled to the bridge or plate member with the same locking actuator that causes clamping of the clamp device so that the positions of the clamp device and the spinal rod are locked into place by manipulation of only a single locking actuator.

  • Publication number: 20160298352
Abstract: A building structure having one or more of stories and including at least two columns supporting a first of the stories; where at least one of the columns is supported by at least one brace having a first portion and a second portion. The at least one brace has a first configuration in which the first portion is freely moveable with respect to the second portion such that a gap is formed in the brace preventing the transmission of force axially along the brace, and a second configuration in which the gap is closed by the first portion and the second portion being in contact to permit the transmission of forces axially along the brace. The second configuration occurs when the at least one column undergoes a level of deformation sufficient to force the gap to be closed.

  • Patent number: 9384179
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for evaluating composition of a first file representing a document to be evaluated. An evaluation method transforms the first file to a second file. The second file includes a plurality of objects corresponding to the composition of the first file. The evaluation method also determines parameters based on the plurality of objects; evaluates the parameters based on a plurality of composition rules provided by a rule engine; generates evaluation findings and stores the evaluation findings; and generates an evaluation conclusion based on the evaluation findings. The evaluation conclusion indicates compliance of the document according to the composition rules.
