A user interface provides a menu of functions to a user and successively receives a plurality of menu choices, which the processor records. A storage device holds data defining a first action criterion. The processor compares the menu choices to the first action criterion. When the stored menu choices satisfy the first action criterion, the processor can automatically add a first additional function to the menu of functions, or can automatically presents a reward token via the user interface. The system can also include a housing holding the user interface, the storage device, and the processor. Methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method and system for generating by a server, a recommendation for a venue or an event of interest proximally located to an inferred current location of a user of a portable media player device. In an embodiment, a server may determine one or more media preferences for a user based at least in part on media stored on or accessed using the portable media player device of the user. The server may generate information related to the current location or a recommendation for a venue or an event of interest to the user based at least in part on the one or more media preferences and the inferred current location of the user. Abstract: A hand-held test meter includes an electrically and thermally insulating case (“ETIC”) with an outwardly facing surface, a test meter electrical component (“TMEC”) with a thermal contact portion disposed within the electrically-insulating case, and at least one thermal channel. The thermal channel includes a proximal contact portion with a proximal contact surface, a distal contact portion with a distal surface, and a channel portion connecting the proximal contact portion and the distal contact portion. The thermal channel is integrated with the ETIC such that the thermal channel extends through the ETIC from the outwardly facing surface and to the thermal contact portion of the TMEC. The extension is such that the proximal contact surface of the thermal channel is outside of the ETIC and the distal surface of the thermal channel is in contact with the thermal contact portion of the TMEC. The thermal channel is thermally conductive and electrically-insulating.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated method that contemplates performing a first atomic force microscope (AFM) scan of a first region of a sample centered at a first position at a first angle to produce a first scan image, the first AFM scan including a first component scan at a first speed and a second component scan at a second speed; performing a second AFM scan of the first region of the sample at a second angle to produce a second scan image, the second AFM scan including performing a third component scan at the first speed and a fourth component scan at the second speed; and correcting a first error in the first scan image based on the second scan image to produce a corrected image output.

Abstract: A topographic profile of a structure is generated using atomic force microscopy. The structure is scanned such that an area of interest of the structure is scanned at a higher resolution than portions of the structure outside of the area of interest. An profile of the structure is then generated based on the scan. To correct skew and tilt of the profile, a first feature of the profile is aligned with a first axis of a coordinate system. The profile is then manipulated to align a second feature of the profile with a second axis of the coordinate system.

Abstract: Systems and methods for low voltage detection for a heat pump water heater are disclosed. A current sensor can be used to monitor current supplied to a inductive load, such as a compressor or evaporator fan, of the heat pump water heater. The current sensor can be coupled to a controller which receives and processes information from the current sensor to determine whether a low voltage condition of the heat pump water heater has occurred. An alert can be provided to an installer/user of the heat pump water heater that a low voltage condition has occurred. The controller can also disconnect the heat pump water heater from the power source to prevent damage to the heat pump water heater.

Abstract: A software and/or hardware facility for generating menu trails for a portable media player. A menu trail is a visual cue to a user, repeated on each menu item in the media player navigation interface, that highlights a path for the user to follow to a content item stored on or accessible by the media player, or to a capability of the media player. Menu trails may highlight new content and capabilities, or may highlight existing content or capabilities. A user using the media player may easily follow the visual cues through the player's menus in order to navigate to the content item or capability.
