    Abstract: An elliptical exercise device including a frame having a pivot axis, a foot link, a coupling, a swing arm, an engagement mechanism, and a guide system. The foot link has rearward, forward and foot support portions. The foot support portion has a central location. The coupling couples the rearward portion to the pivot axis so that the rearward portion of each foot link travels in a closed path relative to the pivot axis. The engagement mechanism has a first portion coupled to the swing arm and a second portion coupled to the foot link at a location rearward of the central location. The guide system supports the forward portion of the foot link along a preselected reciprocating path of travel as the rearward portion of the foot link travels along its path of travel. The guide system is selectably positionable in a plurality of different positions.

    Abstract: An exercise device is provided including a foot link having a rearward end and a forward end. An adjustable stride mechanism is provided. The adjustable stride mechanism includes a primary gear and a secondary gear. The primary gear is sized larger relative to the secondary gear. A primary crank connects the primary gear and the secondary gear. A timing belt connects the primary gear to the secondary gear. The primary crank and the timing belt enable the secondary gear to rotate around the primary gear. A secondary crank is pivotally attached to the secondary gear and to a foot link. The secondary crank creates an ellipse-shaped path for the foot link as the secondary gear rotates around the primary gear. Thus, the foot link motion combines an at least a dual ellipse motion. An automatic adjusting mechanism can be provided to adjust adjust the adjustable stride mechanism.

    Abstract: An exercise device in accordance with the present invention includes a frame defining a longitudinal axis, with the frame having a rearward portion and a forward portion. A guide track and a foot link are provided. The foot link includes a rearward portion that is constrained to move in an orbital path approximately parallel to the longitudinal axis and a forward portion that reciprocally engages the guide track. A swing arm is provided having a pivotal connection to the frame. The swing arm includes an upper portion extending above the pivotal connection and a lower portion disposed below the pivotal connection. An engagement mechanism includes a first portion coupled to the lower portion of the swing arm and a second portion coupled to the forward portion of the foot link. A rearward force applied to the upper portion of the swing arm produces a force on the forward portion of the foot link having a downward component. A load monitoring mechanism is positioned to monitor the load applied to the swing arm.

A first press arm is coupled to the support assembly and is pivotal about a first pivot axis between a rest position and an extended position. A mechanism for add-on weights is further provided. The mechanism for add-on weights includes at least one add-on weight having a first region of contact and a second region of contact. The first region of contact can be defined by a selector pin hole in the add-on weight adapted to receive a selector pin. The selector pin engages the add-on weight approximately in line with the center of gravity of the add-on weight. The second region of contact can be provided by a stabilization bracket defining an aperture into which a stabilization pin on the add-on weight extends.

    Abstract: A trolley 10 can be moved between a raised position and a lowered position. The trolley is usually in the lowered position when it is put into an ambulance. A magnet 252 is secured to one connecting leg of the trolley and a counter 258 is connected to the top frame 16 of the trolley. When the trolley is moved to a lower position the magnet 252 comes in close proximity to the counter 258 and a count is recorded. The recorded count gives an indication of the number of times that the trolley has been raised and lowered.
