  • Patent number: 6596162
Abstract: The invention relates to a vessel and to a rod used with the vessel for collecting magnetic particles from a liquid containing the particles in the vessel, or for releasing the particles into a liquid in the vessel. The minimum distance from the rod, when inserted into the vessel, from the inner wall surface of the vessel is great enough at each point to resist or prevent any liquid ring or ring part from being formed between the vessel and the rod, which ring could be removed along with the rod. In this manner, liquid is prevented from being removed from the vessel along with the rod.

  • Patent number: 6197597
Abstract: The invention concerns a solid-phase determination method and equipment and an adapter for use in these. In the method a sample is allowed to react with a separating reagent bound to the outer surface of a separate solid phase body, whereafter the body is removed from the vessel and is taken to a measurement vessel, if required through one or several intermediate step vessels. At least one vessel contains a medium needed in a determination step to be performed therein when the phase body is brought into this vessel. The invention is especially suitable for use in automatic immunodetermination systems.

  • Patent number: 6144455
Abstract: A fluorometer has a partly transparent mirror through which excitation light is directed to the sample and via which emitted light from the sample is reflected. Thus a high sensitivity and, furthermore, as homogenous a measurement sensitivity distribution as possible within a vessel are achieved. Measuring can be carried out from either above or below. The device is applicable for use especially when the fluorometer has simultaneously a plurality of samples.

  • Patent number: 6111636
Abstract: The application relates to a device for measuring the optical density of samples arranged in strips on a plate. The device comprises a measurement head (3) moving strip by strip in relation to the plate, said measurement head (3) including a light source (4) and a detector (5). Outside the strips, there is provided a transparent spot (9) or a light-proof spot (10), at which the light source intensity or the background signal can be measured either before or after the strip measurement. By employing the single-channel device according to the invention, it is possible to achieve virtually the same speed level as with a multichannel device. However, the device of the invention can be made remarkably simpler. One single-channel device can also be used for measuring several different plates.

  • Patent number: 6065605
Abstract: In an embodiment, a separating member is introduced into the compound, the member comprising a separating surface, the particles are pulled from the compound, by using a magnetic field, to be adhered to a separating surface, the effect of the magnetic field is eliminated, and the particles (16) are collected thereafter from the separating surface. In this way, it is possible to collect particles effectively even from a large volume. It is also easy to transfer particles into a small volume. • Patent number: 5647994
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and apparatus for separating magnetic particles from a solution and transferring them into another solution. The apparatus includes a pipette container, a separation wall defining a separation chamber, and a magnet disposed at one of a first location adjacent an outer side of the separation wall and a second location within the separation chamber. The magnet is adapted to be brought into such a state that a magnetic field is applied to the solution so that the particles will gather onto one of an inner side of the separation wall when disposed in the first location, or on a collection surface of the magnet when disposed in the second location, or so that the magnetic field no longer keeps the magnetic particles on the separation wall or collection surface. The pipette container includes a suction cylinder for drawing the solution into and solution from the pipette container via a jet channel.
