  • Publication number: 20090059879
Abstract: Provided is a wireless communication system, comprising: a base station providing communication by a plurality of communication methods; and a mobile node for communicating with the base station by the plurality of communication methods. The mobile node calculates a first distance between a wireless LAN access point and the mobile node; and judges whether the communication by the wireless LAN is possible by comparing the calculated first distance and a second distance that is a distance within which communication by a wireless LAN is available.

  • Patent number: 7418203
Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a diagnosis method for standby systems in an optical ring network having a redundant configuration, which can confirm normal states of standby systems in all optical transmission apparatuses on the network, even during operations of active systems. To this end, in the present diagnosis method for standby systems, when a diagnosis start command is given to an arbitrary optical transmission apparatus on the network, the optical transmission apparatus provides a false signal to a standby system unit to diagnoses an operation state thereof, and transmits the result to the optical transmission apparatus on the downstream side by utilizing overhead information in the active system optical channel.

  • Publication number: 20080182605
Abstract: To prevent a hung-up of communications due to changes in a radio wave condition resulting from frequent displacement of the terminals and changes in a number of the terminals, and to realize switching of the radio systems adapting to the radio condition. A radio communication system comprising: a base station for providing a plurality of radio systems, and terminals for communicating with the base station through the plurality of radio systems. The base station decides a priority of the radio system on which the each terminal will communicate thereafter and transmits paging signals of one of the plurality of radio systems which includes information on the decided priority to the each terminal.

  • Publication number: 20070066312
Abstract: In ad hoc systems using OLSR, when a mobile node moves out of the fixed node's communication area, communication is impossible in the period from leaving the communication area until the time-out, even if there is a node to relay communications between the fixed node and mobile node. Switching from direct communication to 2-hop communication without interruption is therefore important for achieving continuous communication. Each node reports its position information and speed information to a neighbor mode. The fixed node compares that information with its own communication area, detects mobile node movement to outside the communication area from the mobile node's position and speed information, and switches beforehand to 2-hop communication via a relay node.

  • Publication number: 20060248195
Abstract: An object of this invention is to reduce a calculation amount and required storage capacity of a URL switch by dividing transfer destination determining processing among a plurality of devices. Provided is a computer system including: a plurality of servers; and a packet transfer device, in which: the servers are coupled to the packet transfer device; the packet transfer device is coupled to a client terminal via a network; the packet transfer device receives a content request including a fixed-length hash value that is calculated from a variable-length identifier of the content requested by the client terminal; extracts the hash value from the received content request; and determines, based on the extracted hash value, to which one of the plurality of servers the content request is to be transferred.

  • Patent number: 6891793
Abstract: When an edge node whose order is lower than that of a primary switch detects a failure of the primary switch, the edge node requests a secondary switch that the secondary switch serves as a host of the edge node itself. At this time, the secondary switch establishes a connection between the secondary switch and the edge node, generates routing information and label information in a core network which does not comprise the primary switch to give the routing information and the label information to the edge node. The secondary switch performs communication between the edge node and the secondary switch by using the routing information and the label information which are received from the secondary switch.

  • Publication number: 20040264962
Abstract: According to one embodiment of the invention, a method for providing communications service in a communications ring undergoing an upgrade process is provided. The communications ring is formed from a plurality of existing nodes each operable to transmit, at an existing rate, a first frame having a number of occupied time slots equal to N occupied by data. N is an integer. The method includes increasing the existing rate of a node to a higher rate. With the increase, the node is operable to transmit a second frame at the higher rate. The second frame has a higher number of time slots than the first frame. The method also includes occupying a number of the time slots of the second frame equal to N using data to be received by an existing node. The method also includes providing at least one identifier to the existing node that will receive the second frame. The identifier identifies the occupied time slots of the second frame. The method also includes transmitting the second frame of data to the existing node.
