    Abstract: A seat cushion pad for automobiles, wherein at least a part of the seat surface portion comprises a high-resilience foam. The foam is selected such that a load ratio (3%ISR) between a load at which the thickness is 25% compressed when pressed with a pressure plate having a diameter of 60 mm (25%-strain load) and a load at which the thickness is 3% compressed when pressed with the same pressure plate (3%-strain load) is at least about 6. Alternatively, another ratio (5%ISR) between the load at which the thickness is 25% compressed when pressed with the above dimensioned pressure plate (25%-strain load) and a load at which the thickness is 5% compressed when pressed with the pressure plate (5%-strain load) is selected to be at least about 4. Such design provides comfortable seating and resistance against fatigue even during periods of extended driving, and can be prepared at a low cost with a large degree of design freedom.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a side air bag device embedded in a seat side which splits open a stitching part 26 of a seat covering material 20 by means of deployment pressure of an air bag 14 and deploys the air bag 14. In this device, a band 28 for concentrating deployment pressure of the air bag 14 on deployment of the air bag 14 is disposed, and a start to the stitching part 26 splitting open is made by means of this band 28. As a result, the stitching part 26 can be split open rapidly. Also, in the device, a seat pad 72 was interposed between an air bag case 16 and the seat covering material 20. As a result, the softness and feeling of the seat feel is not lost.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to an arrangement for providing an automatic steering control and restraining a steering wheel from being rotated in case of the automatic steering control. A rack is mounted on the vehicle to be laterally movable with respect thereto and linked to a main shaft of a steering wheel. A lateral shaft is disposed to be laterally movable with and with respect to the rack and linked at its opposite ends to steerable wheels of the vehicle. Relative positions of the rack and lateral shaft are adjusted by an adjusting device. An electromagnetic clutch is disposed to restrain at least one of the rack and the main shaft from being moved with a frictional force applied thereto in case of the automatic steering control. Consequently, the steering wheel is not rotated in the automatic steering control, while the steering wheel can be rotated manually against the frictional force.

    Abstract: A locking device for a detachable panel fitted in a roof opening of automobiles comprises a pivotable lever mounted to the panel, a stationary body fixed to the vehicle roof, and a link mechanism securely fixed to the lever while pivoted to the stationary body. The link mechanism includes a pair of links each provided with a recess while the stationary body includes a pair of arms each provided with a pin resiliently urged to fit in the recess to lock the position of the panel at the partially open state. The recess includes two lateral edges one of which extends higher than the other other to act as the stopper of the pin, to thereby limit excessive rotational movement of the panel with respect to the stationary body.

    Abstract: A locking device comprises a lever pivotally mounted to a panel which is detachably fitted in a roof opening of automotive vehicles, a stationary body fixed to the vehicle roof and provided with a pair of parallel arms each having a hole therein, and a link mechanism including a stationary bracket fixed to the lever, a pair of links pivoted to the bracket and each having a pin for fitting in the hole in the arm and a spring interposed between the links to urge the links to move in opposite directions. The resilient engagement of the pins of the mechanism with the holes in the arms of the stationary body will avoid any rattle caused between the detachable panel and the vehicle roof.

    Abstract: An edge trim and weather seal assembly for a movable sun roof of a vehicle comprises an edge strip secured in use around an edge of a sun roof panel by means of a bonding agent, and a seal strip mounted on the edge strip to form a weather seal with the vehicle roof opening. The edge strip has top and bottom flanges overlying upper and lower edge portions of the sun roof panel and secured thereto by the bonding agent, and a recess or well portion in the bottom flange receives excess bonding agent and prevents its spillage out onto the exposed part of the sun roof panel. The seal strip has a locating edge portion for engaging the recess in the bottom flange of the edge trim to retain the seal strip on the edge trim.
