  • Patent number: 5748563
Abstract: An energy converter for generating high-power pulses includes a housing defining a chamber having an open side; an electrode assembly supported in the chamber; a power supply for applying a voltage to the electrode assembly; a fluid medium accommodated in the housing and being in contact with the electrode assembly for receiving pulses from the electrode assembly; and a diaphragm attached to the housing and closing the open side of the housing for encapsulating the electrode assembly and the fluid medium in the chamber. The diaphragm has an inner surface oriented toward the chamber and is in contact with the fluid medium. The diaphragm further has an outer surface oriented away from the chamber and is arranged for contacting a substance to be comminuted, whereby mechanical pulses transmitted from the fluid medium to the diaphragm are applied by the diaphragm to the substance to be comminuted.

  • Patent number: 5712341
Abstract: Mixtures of high molecular weight polyisobutylene and thermoplastic polymers are prepared in an extruder by a process in which meterable, high molecular weight polyisobutylene is first metered into the extruder and homogenized in at least one kneading stage, heated and subjected to controlled molecular weight degradation and the thermoplastic polymer is then introduced into the polyisobutylene melt by means of a side feed and is subsequently homogenized together with said melt. The novel process is particularly suitable for the preparation of mixtures of high molecualr weight polyisobutylene and polyethylene.

  • Patent number: 4788752
Abstract: A plastic or cable tie band element for clasping, holding and bundling of objects comprises a profiled band part 6 having a head part 1 joined thereto. Extending through the head part is a passage opening 8 for receiving the band part 6. A holding projection 2 is provided in the opening 8 for cooperating with the profile of the band part 6 and retaining it in the opening. Also within the opening 8 and lying opposite the holding projection is at least one guide element. The guide element comprises at least one rigidly designed knob part 3 provided with a guide track 7 for the band part 6. The guide element is located relative to the introduction direction A of the band part 6 such that it is displaced to the side and at a distance behind the holding projection 2. This causes the band part 6 to move into engagement with the holding projection 2 during insertion or attempted removal of the band part 6.

  • Patent number: 4711185
Abstract: There is needed a process and an apparatus for the pyrolytic decomposition of halogen and/or phosphorus containing organic materials, particularly those which are radioactive, in which no corrosive secondary products, minimal amounts of waste gas, small amounts of dust and conditionable active solid waste form. This is accomplished by mixing the materials in an over stoichiometric ratio with basis compounds and introducing them from above in the form of a suspension into a fixed bed reactor which is charged with mechanically agitated substantially spherical ceramic structures.

  • Patent number: 4483806
Abstract: For the operation of material-test-reactors, recently there have been considered fuels having lower degrees of enrichment in U-235. For this purpose, there is needed U.sub.3 O.sub.8 powder having a crystal size of 40 to 90 .mu.m, which is producible economically and in whose production there is developed as little secondary waste as possible and a pore-free product. For this purpose, uranium compounds of the stage of oxidation +4 to +6 are calcined in an oxygen containing atmosphere whereby the calcining is carried out above 1250.degree.
