  • Publication number: 20100132426
Abstract: The invention pertains to a device for influencing the temperature distribution over the width of a slab or a strip, particularly in hot strip rolling mill, wherein at least one cooling device is provided that features nozzles for applying a cooling medium, wherein the nozzles are arranged and/or actuated in such a way that the cooling medium is applied, in particular, at positions at which an elevated temperature is determined. The invention furthermore pertains to a device for influencing the state of the surface evenness of the strip by means of strip cooling, wherein the cooling device is controlled in dependence on the state of surface evenness of the strip in such a way that the surface unevenness is reduced or eliminated. In addition, this invention makes it possible to purposefully influence the strip contour, wherein the strip or the slab is cooled widthwise in such a way that the strip contour approximates a desired target contour more closely.

  • Publication number: 20090320546
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a finishing train for hot-rolling starting material. Starting material is finished in several successive roll stands (110 n) in the finishing train, the material cooling off because of heat loss. The material has to be reheated in order for the temperature of the material not to drop below the predefined lower threshold temperature value at low speeds within and at the discharge end of the finishing train. In order to use as little energy as possible for said reheating process the reheating process within the finishing train is carried out for the first time only when the temperature of the material risks falling below the lower threshold temperature value for the first time relative to the direction of flow of the material because of heat loss.

  • Publication number: 20090178778
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a metal strip (1) by continuous casting. According to said method, a slab (3), preferably a thin slab, is initially cast in a casting machine (2), said slab being deviated from a vertical direction (V) into a horizontal direction (H), and in the direction of transport (F) of the slab (3) arranged behind the casting machine (2), the slab (3) is subjected to a milling operation in a milling machine (4) and at least one milling operation in at least one rolling train (5, 6). According to the invention, in order to improve the quality of the strip, the rolling and milling operations are carried out immediately after the slab (3) is cast in the casting machine (2). The rolling operation is divided into at least two partial-rolling operations in at least one first rolling train (5) and one second rolling train (6). The milling operation in the milling machine (4) is carried out directly prior to the first rolling operation or between both rolling operations.

  • Patent number: 7266984
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for lubricating rolls, in particular for lubricating a rolling nip in rolling stands for rolled strips. According to the invention, said lubrication takes place using an oil-in-water dispersion whilst maintaining both a predetermined blend characteristic and a volumetric flow of the dispersion. The dispersion is prepared in the form of a homogeneous blend in a mixer (1) using adjustable quantities of water and oil. The dispersion is supplied to various spray zones (Zi) for a distribution (Bi) that is variable in width. Said method for roll lubrication can be improved by the allocation of at least one row of nozzles (Di) to each spray zone (Zi), which has a corresponding spray range width (Bi), each nozzle being controlled by at least one relay valve (Si).

  • Patent number: 7181943
Abstract: Strip is descaled in a rolling line having a scale scrubber and a finishing line downstream of the scale scrubber. The strip is sprayed with water on its upper and under sides at a descaling pressure in the scale scrubber. In the scrubber the strip is treated with water at a multiplicity of locations spaced from one another in the travel direction. A furthest downstream location at the under side is spaced downstream from a furthest downstream location at the upper side. Rolling torques of at least one rolling mill of the finishing line are measured above and below the strip and control parameters are produced corresponding thereto. These parameters are fed to a control circuit and used thereby to adjust quantities of water sprayed at the locations against the upper side and under side of the strip upstream of the finishing line.

  • Patent number: 7159433
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for cooling and/or lubricating rollers, in particular the working rollers (2, 3) on a rolling stand and a rolled strip (1), rolled between the above rollers and transported onwards, using water in the form of spray jets (4, 5) as cooling medium and oil, oil/water mix, oil/water mix, oil/air/water mix or grease mixtures as lubricant. In order to improve the lubricating and cooling effects, a combined application of super-cooling the strip and roller surfaces and roller lubrication on the input side of the stand is disclosed, in which both media, water and lubricant, are separately fed to the rollers (2, 3) and the rolled strip and applied to the roller surface at different application points. Separate reservoirs for water and lubricant and separate lines to the spraying bar (11) for water and the spraying bar (12) for the lubricant are provided.

  • Patent number: 7143499
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing metal strips and sheets involving the following method steps: pouring a strand, which is provided in the form (1) of thin slabs and which is comprised of carbon steel or special steel, into a casting machine (4) and rolling the cast product away from the casting heat. The aim of the invention is to utilize free capacities of existing installations, that is, installations not operating at full capacity, with which primary carbon steels are produced, in order to supplement other types of steel or to supplement cast products produced in another manner. To this end, the invention provides that, together with these first cast products (1), at least second cast products (2), which are produced in a second process route (II) from special steel if the first thin slabs are cast from carbon steel or are produced from carbon steel if the first thin slabs are cast from special steel, are rolled within a joint rolling program.

  • Patent number: 7086264
Abstract: A roll stand has upper and lower rotatable working rolls defining a nip that pinches a workpiece strip and upper and lower vertically spaced rotatable backing rolls vertically flanking and engaging the working rolls. A drive includes a motor, upper and lower backing-roll outputs drivable by the motor, and upper and lower working-roll outputs also drivable by the motor. Respective upper and lower backing-roll and working-roll releasable connections are provided between the outputs and the respective rolls. When the working rolls are of large diameter, the backing-roll connections are released to disconnect the backing rolls from the drive and the working-roll connections are engaged to connect the working rolls to the drive and, when the working rolls are of small diameter, the working-roll connections are released to disconnect the working rolls from the drive and the backing-roll connections are engaged to connect the backing rolls to the drive.

  • Patent number: 7059163
Abstract: The invention relates to a roll stand comprising a crown-variable-control (CVC) roll pair, preferably a CVC working roll pair and a back-up roll pair, which comprise a contact area (B cont) in which a horizontally active torque (M) acts that leads to a twisting of the rolls and thus to axial forces in the roll bearings. In order to keep the axial forces in the roll bearings as small as possible, the torque (M) is minimized by an appropriate CVC grinding.

  • Patent number: 6983631
Abstract: The invention relates to a mill train (1) for milling a strip-type product to be milled (10). Said mill train comprises a number of roll stands (2) which are successively arranged in a milling direction (x) and which can be respectively pivoted about a rotational axis (18) which is essentially perpendicular to the milling direction (x). The aim of the invention is to maintain a belt run which favors a pre-determined milling result, in an especially simple and reliable manner. According to the invention, a control value (S) is pre-determined for the pivoting angle of a roll stand, or of each roll stand (2), according to the determined contour of the strip end (30) of a product (10) which has already been milled. According to the invention, additional control elements can also be used.
