  • Publication number: 20040232258
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for lubricating rolls, in particular for lubricating a rolling nip in rolling stands for rolled strips. According to the invention, said lubrication takes place using an oil-in-water dispersion whilst maintaining both a predetermined blend characteristic and a volumetric flow of the dispersion. The dispersion is prepared in the form of a homogeneous blend in a mixer (1) using adjustable quantities of water and oil. The dispersion is supplied to various spray zones (Zi) for a distribution (Bi) that is variable in width. Said method for roll lubrication can be improved by the allocation of at least one row of nozzles (Di) to each spray zone (Zi), which has a corresponding spray range width (Bi), each nozzle being controlled by at least one relay valve (Si).

  • Publication number: 20040217184
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for cooling and/or lubricating rollers, in particular the working rollers (2, 3) on a rolling stand and a rolled strip (1), rolled between the above rollers and transported onwards, using water in the form of spray jets (4, 5) as cooling medium and oil, oil/air mix, oil/water mix, oil/water mix, oil/air/water mix or grease mixtures as lubricant. In order to improve the lubricating and cooling effects, a combined application of super-cooling the strip and roller surfaces and roller lubrication on the input side of the stand is disclosed, in which both media, water and lubricant, are separately fed to the rollers (2, 3) and the rolled strip and applied to the roller surface at different application points. Separate reservoirs for water and lubricant and separate lines to the spraying bar (11) for water and the spraying bar (12) for the lubricant are provided.

  • Publication number: 20040079127
Abstract: The invention relates to a mill train (1) for milling a strip-type product to be milled (10). Said mill train comprises a number of roll stands (2) which are successively arranged in a milling direction (x) and which can be respectively pivoted about a rotational axis (18) which is essentially perpendicular to the milling direction (x). The aim of the invention is to maintain a belt run which favours a pre-determined milling result, in an especially simple and reliable manner. According to the invention, a control value (S) is pre-determined for the pivoting angle of a roll stand, or of each roll stand (2), according to the determined contour of the strip end (30) of a product (10) which has already been milled. According to the invention, additional control elements can also be used.

  • Publication number: 20040069034
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for removing scale from strips in a mill train, by means of a descaling device (3) and a finishing train (1) arranged in the direction of movement of said strips (4) behind the descaling device (3). According to the invention, the upper and lower sides (5, 6) of the strip (4) are impinged upon by water under pressure inside the descaling device (3) and in the mill train. The aim of the invention is to reduce the disadvantageous effects of the different temperatures and different scale growth between the upper and lower sides (5, 6) of the strip (4) inside the finishing train. According to the invention, a symmetrical temperature distribution on the upper and lower sides (5, 6) of the strip (4) is produced inside the descaling device (3) and is kept as constant as possible inside the finishing train (1).

  • Publication number: 20040025320
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing metal strips and sheets involving the following method steps: pouring a strand, which is provided in the form (1) of thin slabs and which is comprised of carbon steel or special steel, into a casting machine (4) and rolling the cast product away from the casting heat. The aim of the invention is to utilize free capacities of existing installations, that is, installations not operating at full capacity, with which primary carbon steels are produced, in order to supplement other types of steel or to supplement cast products produced in another manner. To this end, the invention provides that, together with these first cast products (1), at least second cast products (2), which are produced in a second process route (II) from special steel if the first thin slabs are cast from carbon steel or are produced from carbon steel if the first thin slabs are cast from special steel, are rolled within a joint rolling program.

  • Publication number: 20040003644
Abstract: The invention relates to a roll stand comprising a crown-variable-control (CVC) roll pair, preferably a CVC working roll pair and a back-up roll pair, which comprise a contact area (bcont) in which a horizontally active torque (M) acts that leads to a twisting of the rolls and thus to axial forces in the roll bearings. In order to keep the axial forces in the roll bearings as small as possible, the torque (M) is minimized by an appropriate CVC grinding.

  • Publication number: 20030167817
Abstract: The invention relates to a four- or six-high rolling stand for a rolling train and to a method for operating the same. The aim of the invention is to provide rolling stands that can adapt rapidly to rolling products of different thicknesses and/or hardnesses. To achieve this, rolling stands are provided with minimum expenditure that can be selectively operated with both thin and thick working rolls. The inventive combined drive in the four- or six-high rolling stand allows thick working rolls to be directly connected to a motor, whereas thin working rolls are merely carried along by neighbouring back-up rolls or intermediate rolls by means of friction.

  • Publication number: 20030015259
Abstract: In a method and device for pickling a rolled metal, in particular, steel strip, the metal strip (1) is fed to a regulated pickling process. In order to carry out the pickling process not only on the basis of conventional pickling parameters but rather taking into consideration additional parameters from outside of the pickling vat, it is proposed to regulate the pickling process, in addition to the pickling medium parameters, by parameters of the coil (2) and/or metal strip determined and/or measured before the metal strip (1) enters the pickling section (3).

  • Patent number: 5970765
Abstract: A method of rolling strip in a strip rolling train having at least two roll stands, each roll stand having horizontally adjustable upper and lower work rolls, wherein the work rolls act alone as a two-high stand or each work roll is supported directly or through an intermediate roll by a back-up roll, or in a reversing stand in which at least two passes are rolled, wherein the strip is subjected in the roll stands to a constitutional change, and wherein adjusting elements act on the strip for imparting a profile and surface evenness to the strip. The method includes presupposing in at least one strip area an intended surface unevenness shape over a width of the strip, determining an actually achieved surface unevenness shape in the strip area and comparing the actually achieved surface unevenness shape to the presupposed unevenness shape, computing a difference between the unevenness shapes, and operating the adjusting elements such that the difference is minimized.

  • Patent number: 5943896
Abstract: A method of influencing the strip contour in the edge region of a rolled strip in which by superimposing a conventional CVC contour the harmful side effect of a unilaterally narrowing roll on the body portion of the roll gap is compensated. Special CVC rolls are used as work rolls for influencing the strip contour in the edge areas. The special CVC roll for influencing the strip contour in the edge area is a roll with a profile, which, starting from a tapered end, has the steadily changing diameter differences of a continuously variable crown, which, in accordance with the invention, is profiled in axial direction in such a way that during its axial displacement the resulting undesirable component of the effect of the conical taper, i.e.
