  • Publication number: 20060245452
Abstract: In one exemplary aspect thereof the invention provides a method that operates to receive information through at least one input of a protocol layer packet segmentation unit and to dynamically vary packet segment size in accordance with the received information prior to transmission to a receiver. The information received through the at least one input may include information related to channel quality for a channel through which packet data are transmitted to the receiver. The information received through the at least one input may also be or may include information received from at least one of a higher protocol layer or a lower protocol layer.

  • Patent number: 6735180
Abstract: A method of sending feedback information in a fast physical layer hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) for frequency division duplex communications that form an overall wireless communication system is described in which the received packets are acknowledged by transmitting feedback data to the sender, wherein the acknowledgement comprises the reservation of obtaining a plurality of slots in the uplink/downlink dedicated channel radio frame for the feedback data alone. It is also directed to the transmission of feedback data used in specified slots within each radio frame, wherein the first slot used is based upon the time offset between uplink and downlink channels, as well as based upon the time required for de-interleaving, de-ratematching, decoding and error checking. In an alternative embodiment, the method uses dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH) bits in at least some of the slots for transmitting such feedback data to the sender.

  • Patent number: 6353626
Abstract: A wireless telecommunications system that includes at least one base station, at least one mobile station, and a data distribution system in the base station for non-uniformly distributing data amongst a plurality of subchannels that are overlaid upon underlying channels before transmission of the plurality of subchannels to the mobile station. The data distribution system non-uniformly distributes the data in accordance with a total load that is already present in each of the subchannels due to the presence of the underlying channels.

  • Patent number: 6064663
Abstract: A method and apparatus for varying the data transmission rate of a code division multiple access (CDMA) telecommunications system. The method and apparatus may be implemented into an existing system operating according to a standard designed for a base data transmission while utilizing the Walsh modulator length, the data transmission frame structure, the channel encoding scheme, or the I/Q modulation level of the existing system. Serial data is input to a transmitter/modulator at a data rate which is higher than the base data transmission rate. The serial data is received over a time period having a duration equal to the duration of the transmission frame and demultiplexed into a plurality of sets of input data. Each of the plurality of sets of input data is then processed in one of a plurality of subchannels using the system channel encoding and interleaving scheme to generate a plurality of sets of processed data.
