  • Publication number: 20020161380
Abstract: A hair removing device capable of feeding a lotion in association with a hair removing operation. The device has a treatment head that is mounted on a housing and includes a hair removing unit for hair depilation or hair epilation and an applicator for supplying a lotion on a user's skin. Also included in the device is a tank holding the lotion and a lotion supply mechanism for supplying the lotion from the tank to the applicator. The treatment head is formed with an actuator which acknowledges an even of the treatment head coming into an operative condition with the skin and activates a lotion supply mechanism to supply the lotion from the tank to the applicator when such event is acknowledged.

  • Publication number: 20020052611
Abstract: An epilating device has a rotary cylinder carrying a plurality of pinching row units arranged around the cylinder. An actuator bar is connected to movable blades in each row unit and is caused by a driven mechanism to move the movable blades towards the adjacent blades for pinching body hairs therebetween and plucking the hairs as the cylinder rotates. After the actuator bar is released from the driven mechanism, the bar is urged by a return spring to move the blades away from the adjacent blade to be ready for subsequent hair pinching. All the actuator bars spaced circumferentially around the cylinder and provided respectively for the row units are coupled commonly to the one return spring so that the epilating device can have an increased number of the row units around the cylinder only at a minimum number of the springs.

  • Patent number: 6287190
Abstract: A hand-held epilating device capable of increasing plucking efficiency. The epilating device has a housing to be grasped by a hand of a user, and a plucking cylinder carrying at least one set of pinching elements for catching and pinching body hairs therebetween. The plucking cylinder has a longitudinal axis and is driven to rotate about the longitudinal axis to pluck the body hairs from the user's skin. The plucking cylinder is supported to the housing so as to effect a periodical movement relative to the housing within a plane parallel to the longitudinal axis. Thus, the area of the skin covered by the plucking cylinder can have increased chances of being in contact with the pinching elements as the pinching elements move periodically relative to the skin together with the plucking cylinder, thereby improving the plucking efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6045559
Abstract: An improved epilating device is capable of effectively removing the hairs at different skin portions of the human body. The epilating device includes a single housing which is shaped to be grasped by the hand of a user and which includes a drive source. The housing carries a first epilation module provided at its top with a first plucking head which is driven by the drive source to effect the plucking of the body hairs. The first plucking head has a length defining therealong a first epilation zone. Also carried on the housing is a second epilation module provided at its top with a second plucking head which is driven commonly by the drive source to effect plucking of the body hairs. The second plucking head has a length defining therealong a second epilation zone.

  • Patent number: 6004331
Abstract: A depilator has a casing, a row of tweezers, and a skin tensioner which is driven independently from the skin tensioner. When using the depilator, the user grips the casing of the depilator. The skin tensioner swings back and forth between a home position and a tensioning position, thereby applying an appropriate tension to the skin during the depilation. The pain caused by plucking hair is reduced. The driving load of the skin tensioner can also be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5916222
Abstract: A hand-held depilating device capable of masking the pain of plucking the hairs. A plucking head has a plurality of pinching elements which arrange along a horizontal axis in a closely adjacent relation and are driven to close and open gaps between the pinching elements for pinching the hairs between the adjacent elements and release the hairs therefrom. A cycler or turning mechanism is included to cyclically move the plucking head in a direction crossing with the horizontal axis so as to define, in combination with the movement of closing and opening the pinching elements, repeated depilating cycles of introducing the hairs between the adjacent pinching elements, pinching the hairs therebetween, plucking the hairs from the skin, and releasing the hairs from between the pinching elements. Mounted to the top of the housing adjacent to the plucking head is a simulator which applies stimuli to the skin independently of the plucking head.

  • Patent number: 5810843
Abstract: A hand-held depilating device capable of masking the pain of plucking the hairs through psychological effect. The depilating device comprises housing adapted to be grasped by the hand of the user and a plucking head mounted on top of the housing for plucking the hairs from the skin. Stimulator is mounted on top of the housing adjacent to the plucking head for providing mechanical stimuli to the skin while the plucking head operates to pluck the hairs. The stimulator comprises a vibrator which provides vibrations to the skin as the mechanical stimuli which act on sense receptors other than nociceptors that respond to pain, thereby masking the pain caused by plucking the hairs or received at the nociceptors. That is, the mechanical stimuli caused by the vibrations can activate Meissner's corpuscle or Pacinian corpuscle to make indistinct to the pain as demonstrated by a gate-control theory in psychology.

  • Patent number: 5507753
Abstract: A depilating device has a housing with a top opening and a plucking head with a longitudinal axis. The plucking head carries a series of pinching elements arranged in side-by-side relations to form therebetween gaps. At least one of the adjacent pinching elements is movable relative to the other so as to entrap and pinch the hairs between the adjacent pinching elements for plucking the hairs from the skin. A skin guide is disposed around the plucking head to be exposed at least partially beyond the pinching elements for sliding contact with the skin. The plucking head and the skin guide are floatingly supported to the housing by means of a common structure such that they are depressed together into the housing within a predetermined extent.

  • Patent number: 5473818
Abstract: A dry shaver includes a perforated outer shearing foil and an inner cutter. The outer shearing foil has a first axis along which it is arcuately curved. The inner cutter has a longitudinal axis along which it is arcuately curved to have an arcuate contour in conformity with the outer shearing foil and is driven to reciprocate in hair shearing engagement with the outer shearing foil. The inner cutter comprises a plurality of inner blades which are spaced along the longitudinal axis in parallel relation to each other, each of the blades having opposed first and second faces each defining a cutting edge at its upper end so that the individual cutting edges are cooperative to define the arcuate contour. Each inner blade, which is offset from a longitudinal center of the inner cutter, is formed with a first face directing outwardly in the offset direction with an undercut immediately adjacent to the cutting edge. The undercut cooperates with the adjacent cutting edge to give an first rake angle .beta.

  • Patent number: 5189792
Abstract: A reciprocatory cutter head includes a pair of cutter heads mounted to a head frame. Each of the cutter heads is of elongated configuration extending horizontally to define a longitudinal axis and have opposed longitudinal ends. The cutter head includes an elongated outer shearing foil which comes into hair shearing engagement with an inner cutter driven to reciprocate along the longitudinal axis. The cutter heads are floatingly supported to the head frame in such a manner that the cutter heads are vertically movable relative to the head frame independently from each other as well as that each of the cutter heads is vertically movable at one longitudinal end substantially independently of the other longitudinal end. Whereby, the cutter heads cooperate with each other to readily conform to the shapes of a user's skin with maximum skin engaging area for assuring enhanced shaving performance, particularly at the irregularly contoured portions of the skin.

  • Patent number: 4985999
Abstract: A hand-held clipper for removing entangled fibers from the surface of fabrics has a grip handle with a cutting head. The cutting head comprises a perforated shear foil and cutter blades rotating in shearing engagement with the interior face of the shear foil. The shear foil is curved into a generally semi-cylindrical configuration having a longitudinal axis and define first and second side faces on the opposite sides of a curved top portion. The cutter blade has a cutting edge extending along the longitudinal axis of the shear foil and is driven to rotate in one direction about a rotations axis, which is common to the longitudinal axis of the shear foil, so as to move along the curved shear foil continuously from the first side face toward the second side faces.
