  • Patent number: 8885611
Abstract: Apparatus, methods and computer program products operate a radio network controller in a wireless communications system to determine a factor to be used by user equipment operative in the wireless communications network to determine a gain factor for an E-TFC based on the gain factor of a reference E-TFC; and to signal the factor to the user equipment. The radio network controller may select the factor based on at least one criterion. In another aspect, apparatus, methods and computer program products operate user equipment to receive a factor from a wireless communications network, and to use the factor transmitted by the wireless communications network to determine a gain factor that relates a data signal to be transmitted by the user equipment in a data channel and a control signal transmitted by the electronic device in a control channel, where the control signal transmitted in the control channel carries information for use in receiving the data signal.

  • Patent number: 8521205
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for defining a preamble length of a preamble (e.g., a power control preamble) for a discontinuous control channel transmission using, e.g., a dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH) for transmitting the preamble. The preamble length can be optimized using a predetermined criterion depending on a transmission gap length (which can be variable) in the discontinuous control signal (e.g., transmitted on the DPCCH) or in a discontinuous data signal, e.g., transmitted on an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH), and/or on a length of a transmission timing interval (TTI) of the discontinuous data. Furthermore, a power in the preamble can be changed in time using a further predetermined criterion.

  • Patent number: 8514817
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for defining an adaptive preamble length of a preamble for a continuous connectivity transmission using a control channel, e.g., a UL (uplink) dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH), for transmitting the preamble. Such a preamble would reduce the accuracy requirement for the initial power setting after a transmission gap and also help the channel estimation and the synchronization of a data channel, e.g., an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH). The preamble length can be optimized and defined using a predetermined criterion depending on: a) a degree of fading of a multipath channel which is used for transmitting data on the data channel and/or b) a throughput relative to a nominal throughput in the data channel.

  • Patent number: 8483143
Abstract: During a radio link setup or reconfiguration or addition procedures, a serving radio network controller SRNC sends a request or prepare message to a drift radio network controller DRNC with a slot format information element IE, to which the DRNC sends a reply. During a physical channel reconfiguration process the DRNC sends a request to the SRNC with the slot format IE. In all cases, the DRNC uses the IE to determine the slot format for its fractional dedicated physical channel, and reconfigures it with the node B according to the IE.

  • Patent number: 8249012
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for defining terminal behavior in a case where the terminal detects that it cannot receive the HS-DSCH from a serving cell reliably when the DCCH is mapped to HS-DSCH (e.g. does not receive any radio link control (RLC) acknowledged mode feedback for the uplink measurement reports or in general the common pilot channel (CPICH) level drops too low in the serving HS-DSCH cell). The terminal is autonomously moved to a cell forward access channel (CELL_FACH) state and uplink signaling is initiated on a random access channel (RACH) to inform a network node and ask for HS-DSCH re-establishment in a suitable cell (preferably in the one being strongest one in the active set or according to the measurements done prior the connection from the serving HS-DSCH cell was lost), or setting up a regular R?99/R?5 DPCH in order to restore the RRC signaling connection in the CELL_DCH state.

  • Patent number: 8243633
Abstract: Parameters are defined for use on an interface (lub/lur) between network elements to enable configuration setup of an enhanced radio uplink (UL E-DCH). The basic Information Elements (IEs) are defined to support UL E-DCH functionality in the network on lub/lur. Particular parameters are shown for communication over the lub/lur interface between the RNCs and the Node Bs in order to be able to setup and re-configure the UL E-DCH channel. Flexibility is provided so as not to be restricted to any particular message or information element, but to be applicable to any selected message or messages in a given protocol.

  • Patent number: 8233431
Abstract: A method for minimizing the loss of data and ensuring that large delays do not occur during reconfigurations of an uplink transmission time interval (TTI) length of a WCDMA High Speed Packet Uplink Access (HSUPA) air interface, wherein the reconfiguration of an uplink TTI length is delayed until all pending retransmissions are successfully transmitted or until the maximum number of transmissions is reached. The transmission of new packets during this time period is prevented. However, pending retransmissions are allowed to occur. After the UE has received an ACK/NACK for each HARQ process, or until the specific maximum number of re-transmissions is reached, the UE starts transmitting with a new uplink TTI length.

  • Patent number: 8005499
Abstract: A set of power control step size increments are determined such that at least two step size increments differ from one another. The set is sent to a Mobile Station MS. A first power command to the MS informs of a first power for a uplink data transmission on a radio resource (E-DPDCH). To change power on the same radio resource, an offset is computed, the set of step size increments is accessed to determine which one, or combination of them, yield the offset, and the MS is informed of the second power by a second message that identifies those elements of the set that alone or in combination yield the offset. The MS determines the second power as a function of the first power and the step size increment(s) from the second message.

  • Patent number: 7965679
Abstract: A network schedules a mobile station for an uplink packet transmission on a data channel, receives from a mobile station an uplink message on a control channel, determines from the uplink message a desired power for the mobile station to transmit on the data channel, and thereafter transmits to the mobile station a power control message that commands either a zero power allocation or a full power allocation for the scheduled uplink packet transmission. The mobile station receives from the network the power control message, then determines from the power control message whether zero or full power is allocated. If zero power, then the mobile station suspends its transmissions on the data channel until receiving a new power control command for uplink transmissions on the data channel. If full power, the mobile station transmits user data on the data channel without regard to power on a control channel.
