  • Publication number: 20090020789
Abstract: An HCCD includes a channel 21 that transfers electric charges in an X direction, a channel 25 that transfers the electric charges in a Z1 direction, a channel 23 that transfers the electric charges in a Z2 direction, and a channel 22 that connects the channels 23, 25 to the channel 21. The following relation is satisfied in impurity concentration of the channels: channel 21<channel 22<channel 23, 25 A fixed DC voltage is applied to branch electrodes 12a, 12b above the channel 22. The channel 22 has protrusion portions 19 that protrude inward from an outer circumference, which connects T1 and T2, and an outer circumference, which connects T3 and T4. The protrusion portions 19 causes charges below the transfer electrode 11b to move near the center of the channel 22 in a Y direction. Thereby, the travel distance of the charges in the channel 22 is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20070229691
Abstract: In a solid state imaging device, signal charges are branched to be output to in the form of one or plural outputs. At a horizontal transfer speed not lower than a predetermined transfer speed, the imaging device transfers signal charges of color attributes classified by a branching section, to plural horizontal transfer paths, where the signal charges are converted into analog voltage signals, which will be output synchronously. At a horizontal transfer speed lower than the predetermined transfer speed, the analog voltage signal converted is output from, e.g. the horizontal transfer path which has been selected. Output amplifiers arranged on the horizontal transfer paths are differentiated in sensitivities in detecting signal charges, depending on color attributes of signal charges supplied, and output the analog voltage signals.

  • Patent number: 7274399
Abstract: A solid-state image sensor for a solid-state image pickup apparatus includes photosensitive cells each having a photosensitive area divided into a main region and a subregion. The subregion is extended to include the position of a virtual pixel. A light-screening layer is formed with optical openings corresponding to the main and subregions, so that light is incident not only to the main region or actual pixel but also to the subregion at the position of the virtual pixel. Spatial information is therefore available even at the position of the virtual pixel in the form of a signal charge.

  • Publication number: 20070086067
Abstract: An image pickup apparatus includes a plurality of output channels and appropriately operates depending on use situation. The image pickup apparatus includes a system control for determining whether a condition is set on a resolution representing a first speed mode, a resolution representing a second speed mode faster than VGA (Video Graphics Array), or an HDTV (High Definition TeleVision) to generate a control signal depending on the determination result. The control signal controls a drive mode control. Under the control of a timing signal generator responsive to a control signal supplied from the drive mode control, an image sensor and a driver therefor provides image signals captured on two outputs or a single output. The drive mode control controls processing of the image signals in a preprocessor so as to correspond to the number of the output channels of the image sensor.
