    Abstract: A method of processing a silver halide photographic material comprising processing the silver halide photographic material in the presence of an antifoggant which is an organic compound which loses its developing restraining function by a reduction oxidation reaction with oxidized developers. The method improves the discrimination between image and non-image areas of the silver halide photographic material by the novel antifoggant which restrains fog selectively in non-image areas without decreasing photographic sensitivity and image density. The organic compound can be an anti-foggant which possesses a moiety according to the Kendall-Pelz rule and either a mercapto group or a cyclic NH group.
