  • Patent number: 9705977
Abstract: In one embodiment, an electronic device receives a request; obtains a current state from each of a plurality of electronic devices; and selects one of the plurality of electronic devices to service the request based on the current state of each of the plurality of electronic devices. The current state of each of the plurality of electronic devices is one of a plurality of states in a state model. Each of the plurality of states in the state model indicates a discrete level of workload for the plurality of electronic devices.

  • Publication number: 20160298001
Abstract: An adhesive tape having a perforated carrier carrying on opposite sides a structural adhesive with tack such that two articles can be connected by the adhesive tape. The two articles are initially held together by pressure. A direct bond from one article to the other through the perforations in the carrier is subsequently formed to secure the two articles together.

  • Patent number: 9154387
Abstract: Data useful in analyzing the effectiveness of policies for handling transactions involving client communications is automatically collected at network intermediary devices and delivered to an analysis server as part of feedback communications from the network intermediary devices. The data may be collected according to data collection directives distributed to the network intermediary devices along with updates to policies for handling transactions, those updates being configured to alter actions of the network intermediary devices, for example to accommodate changes in behaviors of content servers from which the network intermediary devices obtain content in connection with the client communications.

  • Patent number: 9075894
Abstract: A caching device is configured to determine whether an object received or currently stored at the caching device should be (or continue to be) cached at the caching device, even if the object is otherwise cacheable. If so, the object is cached (or retained) at the caching device, otherwise, it is not. The determination as to whether or not the object should be cached or, if already cached, retained at the caching device may be made on the basis of a worthiness determination which evaluates the object on the basis of one or more parameters or attributes of the object, which worthiness may be one part of an overall value determination for the object.

  • Patent number: 8629574
Abstract: An emergency ballast for a fluorescent lamp includes a rechargeable battery. The emergency ballast also includes a circuit for receiving an electrical voltage and providing a recommended charging voltage to the battery. The electrical voltage is one of two amplitudes, and the circuit provides a charge to the battery without regard to the amplitude of the electrical voltage. The first amplitude of the electrical voltage can be 120 volts, and the second amplitude can be 277 volts. The emergency ballast includes a capacitor electrically coupled to the circuit that provides an additional voltage to the rechargeable battery when the electrical current is 120 volts. The emergency ballast also includes a switch for electrically decoupling the capacitor from the circuit when the electrical current is 277 volts.

  • Patent number: 8312562
Abstract: An impact and/or vibration absorbent material and protective articles making use of said material. An impact and/or vibration absorbent material of the present invention has at least two material layers. The individual layers of the impact and/or vibration absorbent material may be of different materials, or of the same material with the composition of the material of one layer adjusted to be of dissimilar hardness to an adjacent layer. Each material layer preferably contains a number of holes. The holes in one layer are located and arranged to be offset from the holes in an adjacent layer. The combination of material properties and the inclusion and arrangement of holes renders such a material highly impact and/or vibration absorbent. Through use of a protective article of the present invention, the effects of impact and/or vibration forces on a user of the protective article can be minimized.

  • Publication number: 20110043041
Abstract: A ballast for a lamp has a battery that provides direct current in response to a loss of power. The ballast has a conversion circuit that is configured to receive the direct current from the battery and convert it into alternating current that is provided to a lamp. The alternating current is substantially sinusoidal, and has a current crest factor of 1.7 or less. The conversion circuit can use a push-pull topology. The ballast can also include a cathode-heating circuit for pre-heating a cathode associated with the lamp. The cathode-heating circuit pre-heats a cathode of the lamp by increasing the current output of the conversion circuit. The ballast can also include circuitry for converting mains power to power appropriate to illuminate the lamp.
