Patent number: 9735566Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing over-voltage protection for power converters. An over-voltage protection loop includes an error amplifier that maintains an external reference voltage within a highly precise range that can be used to provide a highly precise output voltage from the over-voltage protection loop. The over-voltage protection loop may also include feedback impedance that delays the output of the over-voltage protection loop. The delay may prevent the over-voltage protection loop from being engaged due to voltage transients output from a main servo loop circuit that provides a nominal output voltage under normal operation, thus allowing the threshold voltage and output voltage of the over-voltage protection loop to be set close to the nominal output voltage of the main servo loop circuit.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2016Date of Patent: August 15, 2017Assignee: Crane Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Cuon Lam, Khoa Nguyen, Hach Nguyen, Peter Odell, Sovann Song

Patent number: 9721467Abstract: A traffic lamp and a method of controlling the traffic lamp based on a power signal are provided. The traffic lamp can include a controller and a light emitting element When a plurality of light emitting elements is included in the traffic lamp, each light emitting element is coupled with a separate controller. Each controller can be configured to include a predetermined light emitting timing sequence for the corresponding light emitting element. When the power signal is supplied to the traffic lamp, each controller determines a power signal characteristic such as a frequency or a period of the power signal and controls a light output of the light emitting element: based on the power signal characteristic and the light emitting timing sequence. A plurality of light emitting elements can be synchronized using the power signal applied to the traffic lamp.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2013Date of Patent: August 1, 2017Assignee: GE LIGHTING SOLUTIONS, LLCInventors: Morne Neser, Truong-Khoa Nguyen, Christian Poirier

Publication number: 20160261194Abstract: Systems and methods that provide control circuits having multiple sub-control inputs that control operation of a power electronics device (e.g., a power converter). Each of the multiple sub-control inputs are output from a separate sub-control circuit that includes a feedback circuit having an input tied to a common control node. The common control node is coupled to an input of a controller (e.g., a PWM controller). Outputs of each of the sub-control circuits are coupled to the common control node by a respective switch (e.g., diode, transistor, etc.) so that each of the sub-control circuits may be selectively coupled to the common control node to provide a control signal to a controller. Since components of each of the feedback compensations circuits are biased at a regulation voltage instead of a higher power supply voltage, the control circuit may switch between control modes with minimal delay.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 29, 2015Publication date: September 8, 2016Inventors: Cuon Lam, Sovann Song, Khoa Nguyen

Patent number: 9373961Abstract: The present subject matter is directed to an adaptive load circuit for use with traffic light control systems so as to permit operation using low current consumption lamps where the traffic light control systems were originally manufactured for operation with higher current consuming lamps. The adaptive load circuit provides a mechanism whereby an existing traffic light control system is fooled into accepting use of a low current consuming lamp by creating a specifically timed signal during an interval that the traffic light control system normally checks to determined lamp load characteristics.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2012Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Assignee: GE LIGHTING SOLUTIONS, LLCInventors: Shahriyar Mohammediyan, Truong-Khoa Nguyen, Christopher Yong, Michel Doss, Christian Poirier

Patent number: 9293999Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a self-driven synchronous rectification circuit for an active-clamp forward converter which includes automatically enhancing synchronous MOSFETs and maximizing input voltage range. The gate signals for the synchronous MOSFETs are derived from a unipolar magnetic coupling signal instead of a bipolarized magnetic coupling signal. The unipolar signal is retained for fully enhanced driving of the MOSFETs at low line voltage and the unipolar signal is automatically converted to a bipolar signal at high line amplitude due to line variance to maximize input voltage range by utilizing non-polarized characteristics of the MOSFET gate-to-source voltage (Vgs). The circuit permits efficient scaling for higher output voltages such as 12 volts DC or 15 volts DC, without requiring extra windings on the transformer of the forward converter.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2015Date of Patent: March 22, 2016Assignee: Crane Electronics, Inc.Inventors: Cuon Lam, Sovann Song, Khoa Nguyen, Herman Chen

Publication number: 20150172115Abstract: Systems and methods for assigning virtualized network elements to physical resources in a cloud computing environment are provided. A resource request is received as input indicating a required number of virtual machines and a set of virtual flows, each of the virtual flows indicating a connection between two virtual machines which need to communicate with one another. Each of the requested virtual machines is assigned to a physical server. The set of virtual flows can be modified to remove any virtual flow connecting virtual machines which have been assigned to the same physical server. Each of the virtual flows in the modified set is assigned to a physical link. If a bandwidth capacity of a requested virtual flow is greater than the available bandwidth of a single physical link between servers, multiple links can be allocated to the virtual flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2013Publication date: June 18, 2015Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Kim Khoa Nguyen, Mohamed Cheriet, Yves Lemieux

Patent number: 9018850Abstract: A safety flashing detector that suitably detects unintentional flashing of the LED light engine in a traffic lamp is provided. The LED light engine may flash unintentionally when there are failures (hardware or software) inside a traffic lamp. In certain embodiments, unintentional flashing may be detected using a current sensor. If unintentional flashing is detected, the flashing detector may activate and shut down the LED light engine to remove the hazardous failure and eventually triggers the fuse blowout circuit. Hardware circuitry is suitably employed for both reliability and safety purposes, but software may also be employed.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2010Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: GE Lighting Solutions, LLCInventors: Truong-Khoa Nguyen, Benoit Essiambre, Christian Poirier
