  • Patent number: 5526643
Abstract: A diagnostic system in which the accuracy of the diagnosis of the deterioration state of a catalyst in a catalytic converter for cleaning the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine is enhanced without incurring a rise in cost. The temperature of the catalyst is estimated using the operating-state signal (for example, the flow rate of intake air or the width of a fuel injection pulse) of the engine by a diagnostic device. The conversion efficiency of the catalyst calculated from the outputs of oxygen sensors is corrected using the estimated temperature by the diagnostic device. The deterioration state of the catalyst is diagnosed on the basis of the corrected temperature by the diagnostic device.

  • Patent number: 5398555
Abstract: A torque detection mechanism can be provided for a power train and its control unit without newly adding a sensor and its signal processing module. As a gear pair for the torque detection mechanism of a phase difference type, existing gears in a transmission are used, or a gear pair for this mechanism are provided adjacent to these existing gears. From phase signals sent from pickups, a phase difference signal is obtained by use of one part of existing devices in the control unit. The torque detection mechanism can be realized with the minimum number of component parts by utilizing the existing members and spaces instead of newly adding a sensor and its module. The invention can be applied to either of FF and FR cars, and has a practical structure in respect of the performance, costs and reliability.

  • Patent number: 5157610
Abstract: A system and method for load sharing processing operations between a vehicle mounted station (105) and a stationary base station (25) having a large capacity host computer is described. The vehicle mounted station has detectors for determining operating conditions of a vehicle and controllers (3, 4, 501) for varying the operating conditions. The controllers are connected to a transmitter-receiver (5) which is arranged to communicate over a path (10) with a transmitter-receiver (11) of the base station. The base station has a host computer (18) having a large memory capacity. At predetermined intervals, for example, distance of travel or at engine stop, the vehicle transmitter (5) transmits operating conditions to the base receiver (11) for data processing and the base transmitter (11) then transmits processed data back to the vehicle receiver (5), whereupon the controllers (3, 4, 501) modify the vehicle operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 4776010
Abstract: A subscriber's terminal is connected by a cable to a control unit, which is connected to a central station by a cable. The subscriber's terminal has a voltage supply source for supplying power to the control unit through the cable. The subscriber's terminal detects a communication carrier from the control unit by a demodulator. Based on the detection result, the presence/absence of an abnormality such as disconnection of the cable, malfunction of the control unit, etc. is detected so as to control a relay arranged along the cable between the voltage supply source and the control unit. When the abnormality occurs in the cable or the control unit, power supply to the control unit is stopped, thus preventing electric shock accidents and noise interference.

  • Patent number: 4572880
Abstract: A fluorescent screen of a black matrix type color picture tube is manufactured by forming a graphite film on an inner surface of a face plate, applying a photoresist film on the graphite film, exposing to light portions of the photoresist film where phosphor picture elements are to be formed subsequently, removing the exposed portions of the photoresist film to expose portions of the graphite film, removing the exposed portions of the graphite film to form a black matrix film having voids corresponding to the exposed portions of the graphite film, and thereafter depositing triads of phosphors of picture elements on the inner surface of the face plate through the voids. In a modification, a reflective film is interposed between the graphite film and the photoresist film and portions of the reflective film in register with portions of the photoresist film exposed to light are removed by etching.
