  • Publication number: 20070151332
Abstract: An angular velocity detector using a vibrator made of an annular thin film. The detector also has electrodes arranged ingeniously to have high detection sensitivity for angular velocities. The detector can detect angular velocities in two axial directions simultaneously. The detector has support portions (1105), (1106) which are formed over a first substrate (1123) and poised above the surface of the first substrate (1100) at a certain spacing therefrom. Resilient support bodies are supported to the support portions and include outer springs (1102) and inner springs (1103). A vibrator (1101) is mounted via the resilient support. An exciting means consisting of a magnet (1124) and an exciting electrode (1108) excites the vibrator to vibrate in a certain direction of vibrations.

  • Patent number: 6982851
Abstract: A flying head slider that keeps out dust particles while improving the CFH characteristics, skew dependence characteristics, and linear speed dependence characteristics for achieving a stable fly height. A flying head slider includes a positive pressure generating surface, which includes a leading pad for ensuring pitch stiffness; a pair of side pads, which are positioned behind of the leading pad and to the right and the left for ensuring roll stiffness; and a center pad, which is positioned between the side pads and controls the fly height characteristics. Furthermore, the flying head slider includes steps, which are at a lower height than the positive pressure generating surfaces and extend from the front of the slider toward side edges thereof in order to prevent dust particles from entering an area between the flying head slider and a disk surface.

  • Publication number: 20040021987
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a flying head slider having an air bearing surface forming portion opposed to a recording medium and adapted to receive a buoyancy produced by air bearing due to a dynamic pressure between the air bearing surface forming portion and a recording surface of the recording medium. The flying head slider includes a head for recording and/or reproducing information, a head mounting portion formed on the air bearing surface forming portion for mounting the head, and a projection of diamond-like carbon provided on the head mounting portion at the upstream side of air flow, which is along the slider, on said head. By providing the projection at the upstream side of air flow on the head, the penetration and deposition of any disturbance such as lubricant and dust to the head can be minimized to thereby prevent damage to the head. Accordingly, the operation reliability of the slider can be improved.

  • Publication number: 20030214756
Abstract: A flying head slider is disclosed which can fly stably above the surface of a recording medium and thereby prevent deterioration of a reproduction signal output of the head. The flying head slider has a head for recording and reproducing information onto and from a recording medium and has an air bearing portion at an opposing portion thereof which opposes to the recording medium. The flying head slider is acted upon by buoyancy by air bearing caused by dynamic pressure between the air bearing portion and a surface of the recording medium. The flying head slider is disposed with respect to the recording medium such that, within a flying region of the flying head slider in a radial direction of the information recording medium between an inner circumference position and an outer circumference position of the surface of the recording medium, a flying pitch angle equal to or greater than 120 &mgr;rad is formed between the air bearing portion and the surface of the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 6576910
Abstract: An object is to provide a sample holder and a sample mount which allow observation of a sample from many directions in an electron microscope. A sample holder (10) is made for use in a transmission electron microscope (TEM). In the TEM, an electron beam is incident in the Z direction. A sample mount (17) and a sample (SA) affixed on it can be rotated by a motor (12) in the range of 0 to 360° on an axis extending in the Y direction which differs from the direction of the electron beam incidence. Therefore the electron beam can enter the observed sample (SA) from many directions, thus allowing observation of the sample (SA) from many directions. It is also possible to FIB-process the sample (SA) in many directions without removing the sample (SA) from the sample holder (10), which facilitates the handling in the FIB processing.
