  • Patent number: 9826297
Abstract: In some cases, a method may include receiving information at a media device that is associated with movement of an accessory device. The accessory device is communicatively coupled to the media device via a media interface of the media device (e.g., a mini-phone jack of the media device). The method includes determining, at the media device, whether the accessory device satisfies accessory device orientation criteria based on the information. In response to determining that the accessory device does not satisfy the accessory device orientation criteria, the method includes generating a signal. The signal may be communicated from the media device to the accessory device via the media interface. In some cases, the signal may include accessory device re-orientation information.

  • Patent number: 9806938
Abstract: A network may include a method that includes, for example, receiving a communication request responsive to a telephone number mapping query failure, where the communication request is initiated by an originating communication device requesting a communication session with a terminating communication device, foregoing initiating the communication session as a circuit-switched communication session responsive to determining that the originating communication device and the terminating communication device are enabled to use packet-switched communications, and instructing a second network node to initiate the communication session as a packet-switched communication session between the originating communication device and the terminating communication device responsive to the determination. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20170244663
Abstract: A method includes receiving, at a network component of a first carrier network from a source device, a telephone number of a destination device configured to communicate via a second carrier network. The method further includes in response to a query message sent to a telephone number mapping device of an internetwork packet exchange network, receiving a name server record at the network component, the name server record indicating a domain name associated with a second telephone number mapping device of the second carrier network. The method also includes in response to the network component sending the domain name to a domain name server of the internetwork packet exchange network, receiving an Internet protocol address of the second telephone number mapping device. The method includes sending, from the network component to the second telephone number device, a second query message based on the Internet protocol address.

  • Publication number: 20170230618
Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a computer-readable storage medium in a media controller having computer instructions to execute a soft-phone client application on the media processor, receive a call originating from an internet protocol multimedia subsystem network where the calls are directed to the media processor by a gateway having a switch that routes the call in accordance with a destination address included in a session initiation protocol header message, and selectively answer the call at any of a plurality of terminal devices including a mobile cellular phone coupled to the media processor via a femtocell. The computer instructions can be operable to present an audio portion of the call through a speaker of a presentation device operatively coupled to the media processor. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20170171251
Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method including receiving, at a first carrier, a first query for a record of a called number associated with a request to connect an internet protocol call between a first device of the first carrier and a second device of a second carrier, where the first query includes an inter-carrier telephone number mapping apex domain, querying an internetwork packet exchange telephone number mapping equipment of a partner network for a pointer to a second telephone number mapping equipment of the second carrier according to the first query, querying the second telephone number mapping equipment for the record of the called number using the pointer to the second telephone number mapping equipment of the second carrier, and forwarding the record from the second telephone number mapping equipment to an internet protocol multimedia subsystem of the first carrier for routing the internet protocol call to the second carrier. • Publication number: 20170126750
Abstract: A system for providing an architecture for enabling internet protocol (IP) carrier peering is disclosed. The system provides mechanisms for providing carrier telephone number mapping (ENUM)-based routing for subscribers of a first carrier to locate and connect with subscribers of another IP peering carrier. The system may receive an IP call from a first device of a first carrier that is destined for a second device of a second carrier. The call is forwarded to a breakout gateway control function/transit function that initiates a modified ENUM query to an internetwork packet exchange partner (IPX-P) network using an intercarrier ENUM apex domain. To retrieve a record for routing the call, the modified ENUM query is sent to an IPX-P ENUM via a domain name service name server record configuration directing to the IP address of the IPX-P ENUM. Based on the record, the call is then routed to the second device.

  • Publication number: 20170104714
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method and apparatus for resolving domain name system queries using unique top-level domains in a private network space are disclosed. For example, the method determines that a domain name service query specifies a destination residing in a private network space rather than in a public Internet space. The method then routes the domain name service query to a top-level domain name service server associated with the private network space, without routing the domain name service query to a root domain name service server in the public Internet space. The top-level domain name system server resides in the highest level of a hierarchy of domain name system servers belonging to the private network space.
