Patent number: 11576689Abstract: A method of preparing a knee joint for a prosthesis in a patient includes mating a patient-specific three-dimensional curved inner surface of a femoral alignment guide onto a corresponding three-dimensional femoral joint surface of the patient. The patient-specific three-dimensional curved inner surface is preoperatively configured from medical scans of the knee joint of the patient. First and second holes are drilled into an anterior portion of the femoral joint surface through corresponding first and second guiding apertures of the femoral alignment guide.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2020Date of Patent: February 14, 2023Assignee: Biomet Manufacturing, LLCInventors: Robert Metzger, Keith R. Publication number: 20180168822Abstract: An acetabular device includes a patient-specific acetabular alignment guide including a bone engagement surface. The bone engagement surface has a first portion configured and shaped to be conforming and complementary to an acetabular rim surface and a second portion configured and shaped to be conforming and complementary to a periacetabular area of an acetabulum of a patient. The acetabular alignment guide includes a plurality of guiding formations extending through the second portion for guiding a plurality of alignment pins therethrough. The bone engagement surface and the plurality of guiding formations are prepared from a three-dimensional model of the acetabulum of the specific patient reconstructed pre-operatively from a scan of the patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 5, 2018Publication date: June 21, 2018Inventors: John R. White, Lance Dean Perry, Aaron P. Smith, Jason D. Meridew, Bryan Morrison, W. Jason Slone, Tyler D. Witt, Mark A. Bollinger, Robert Metzger

Patent number: 5800551Abstract: A glenoid component for use in shoulder arthroplasty which is adapted to be implanted into a scapula and engaged by a head of a humeral component. The glenoid component includes a body having a first articulating surface and second textured medial surface opposite to the first articulating surface. The first articulating surface is adapted to be engaged by the head of the humeral component and the second textured medial surface is adapted to be secured to the scapula. A plurality of circular base members extends from the second textured medial surface and provides a circular base pad having a first diameter. A plurality of cylindrical pegs each have a first end adapted to engage a cavity formed in the scapula and a second end extending from one of the circular base members. Each of the cylindrical pegs is partially defined by a sidewall having a second diameter such that the first diameter of the cylindrical base pads is larger than the second diameter of the cylindrical pegs to increase peg shear strength.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1997Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Assignee: Biomet, Inc.Inventors: Daniel E. Williamson, Connie P. Marchek, Lance Dean Perry
