  • Patent number: 11458241
Abstract: Implementations described herein include a system for guiding medical waste fluid into a medical waste collection canister. The system includes a manifold and a filter. The manifold includes a top surface and a sidewall extending from the top surface in a first direction. The top surface and the sidewall define an interior chamber of the manifold. The top surface includes an inlet port and a vacuum port disposed therein. The inlet port connects to a source of medical waste fluid and the vacuum port connects to a vacuum source. The manifold can be formed from a first polymer. A filter is positioned within the interior chamber of the manifold and immediately upstream of the vacuum port so as to filter air flowing into the vacuum port. The filter extends away from the top surface of the manifold in the first direction and the filter is formed from a second polymer.

  • Publication number: 20160331876
Abstract: A medical waste fluid collection cart may include one or more sensors, a controller in communication with at least one of the sensors, and a memory coupled to the controller, the memory configured to store one or more algorithms, measurement correlations, and/or look-up tables relating sensed measurements to concentrations of waste fluid received from a surgical site. The fluid collection cart may further include a container and a suction tube having a lumen extending through the suction tube, where the suction tube may communicate with the container to deposit waste fluid from a surgical site in the container. One or more of the sensors may include a light sensor for sensing a measure related to a concentration of blood in the waste fluid removed from a surgical site. The controller may determine a blood loss quantity from identifying an average blood concentration in the waste fluid removed from the surgical site.

  • Patent number: 9352143
Abstract: An intravascular valve component broadly includes a valve case and a flexible pressure-actuated flow control valve. The valve case includes attached proximal and distal case portions that present respective spaced apart fluid ports and a fluid passageway extending between the ports. The flexible pressure-actuated flow control valve is disposed within the fluid passageway and includes a slitted central valve wall and an annular flange surrounding the central valve wall. The annular flange includes a radially-extending flange wall and a projection extending axially from the flange wall, with the projection engaging one of the case portions to restrict radial movement of the flow control valve relative to the valve case.

  • Publication number: 20150306285
Abstract: A medical waste fluid collection cart may include a controller for controlling one or more functions of the medical waste fluid collection cart and a memory coupled to the controller, the memory configured for storing one or more vacuum levels. The graphical user interface may be communicatively coupled to the controller and/or the memory and may be configured to allow a user to monitor and/or control one or more functions of the medical waste fluid collection cart. The graphical user interface may include a user confirmation screen to allow a user to confirm a vacuum setting. Using the confirmation screen, the user may confirm the vacuum setting using a first selection corresponding to a predetermined low vacuum level or a second selection corresponding to a previously used vacuum level.

  • Patent number: 8920394
Abstract: A suction canister liner including a body portion having a sidewall and a bottom. An annular tapered sealing surface is positioned over the sidewall of the canister liner body portion to allow ease of loading and unloading. The annular tapered sealing surface has a top diameter and a bottom diameter, where the top diameter is greater than the bottom diameter. The canister liner may be placed within the interior of a canister. The canister sidewall includes a vacuum port adapted to communicate with a vacuum source. A lid having a patient port and a suction port engages and removably covers the open top end of the canister liner. The annular tapered sealing surface of the canister liner seals against the interior surface of the rim of the canister when a vacuum is applied to the canister interior through the vacuum port by the vacuum source.

  • Patent number: 8915885
Abstract: An intravenous catheter anchoring assembly is disclosed and includes a patient-contacting membrane, a platform, and a retaining strap for securing a catheter or tubing of an administration set to a patient. The strap is attached to the platform with adjustable pull-tabs that permit a variety of catheter shapes and sizes to be secured. The strap is also elastomeric so that the strap is stretchable and thereby grabs the secured catheter. The strap and platform further define a plurality of passageways that permit the catheter to be secured in a plurality of non-aligned directions.

  • Patent number: 8834432
Abstract: An injection site (12) for infusion of parenteral fluids has a pressure-actuated valve (20) and a split septum unit (24), which prevent reflux of blood into the assembly (10). The septum unit (24) includes a resilient split septum body (64) precompressed so that the septum body (64) is caused to protrude proximally (78) upon insertion of a cannula (16). Consequently, upon removal of the cannula (16), there is essentially no “drumming” or creation of friction-induced negative pressures sufficient to generate blood reflux. The preloaded septum body (64) also has its proximal surface (74) essentially flush and coplanar with the adjacent proximal end (66b) of the tubular septum holder (66) to enhance the cleanliness of the unit (24).
