  • Patent number: 6864504
Abstract: A structure and method of forming a fully planarized polymer thin-film transistor by using a first planar carrier to process a first portion of the device including gate, source, drain and body elements. Preferably, the thin-film transistor is made with all organic materials. The gate dielectric can be a high-k polymer to boost the device performance. Then, the partially-finished device structures are flipped upside-down and transferred to a second planar carrier. A layer of wax or photo-sensitive organic material is then applied, and can be used as the temporary glue. The device, including its body area, is then defined by an etching process. Contacts to the devices are formed by conductive material deposition and chemical-mechanical polish.

  • Publication number: 20040239369
Abstract: Methods and structures are disclosed herein for programmably adjusting a peaking function of a differential signal receiver. The disclosed method includes inputting a pair of differential signals to a pair of input transistors coupled to conduct currents differentially between a pair of load impedances and a pair of tail transistors. The impedance of an adjustable shunt impedance element between the tail transistors of the receiver is varied by programming signal input, such that higher current is conducted over a peaking range of frequencies. In a disclosed structural embodiment, an integrated circuit is provided having a programmable peaking receiver. The programmable peaking receiver includes a pair of input transistors coupled to conduct differentially according to a pair of differential inputs applied to the pair of input transistors. Each of the input transistors produces an output in accordance with the differential input applied thereto.

  • Publication number: 20040227061
Abstract: A method and structure for a photodiode array comprising a plurality of photodiode cores, light sensing sidewalls along an exterior of the cores, logic circuitry above the cores, trenches separating the cores, and a transparent material in the trenches is disclosed. With the invention, the sidewalls are perpendicular to the surface of the photodiode that receives incident light. The light sensing sidewalls comprise a junction region that causes electron transfer when struck with light. The sidewalls comprise four vertical sidewalls around each island core. The logic circuitry blocks light from the core so light is primarily only sensed by the sidewalls.

  • Publication number: 20040209635
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed herein for determining optimum power level settings for a transmitter and receiver pair of a communication system having a plurality of transmitter and receiver pairs, as determined with respect to bit error rate. In the method disclosed herein, the power levels of a transmitter and a receiver pair coupled to communicate over a duplex communication link are set to initial values. The bit error rate is then determined over the link. Then, the power level of the transmitter, the receiver, or both, is altered, incrementally, and the effect upon the bit error rate is determined. When an improvement appears in the bit error rate at an altered power level, the power level of the transmitter, the receiver or both, are set to the altered power level at which the improvement is found.

  • Patent number: 6777761
Abstract: A semiconductor structure (and method for forming) having transistors having both metal gates and polysilicon gates on a single substrate in a single process is disclosed. The method forms a gate dielectric layer on the substrate and forms the metal seed layer on the gate oxide layer. The method patterns the metal seed layer to leave metal seed material in metal gate seed areas above the substrate. Next, the method patterns a polysilicon layer into polysilicon structures above the substrate. Some of the polysilicon structures comprise sacrificial polysilicon structures on the metal gate seed areas and the remaining ones of the polysilicon structures comprise the polysilicon gates. The patterning of the polysilicon gates forms the sacrificial gates above all the metal gate seed areas. Following that, the invention forms sidewall spacers, and source and drain regions adjacent the polysilicon structures.
