Abstract: Single-port signal repeater. The repeater is connected in parallel to the communication means (3), on which only one point of access (5) is needed. The repeater (4) comprises an amplifier, a hybrid circuit and a resupply and increases the scope and transmission capacity for communications made on a medium controlled without the disadvantages of the standard repeaters, which have to interrupt the line and need two access points to the channel.

Abstract: A DSX system having a plurality of jacks mounted in a chassis, the jacks including IN and OUT ports accessible from the front of the chassis and tip and ring springs corresponding to each of the IN and OUT ports. The chassis also includes IN and OUT co-axial cable connectors electrically connected to the tip and ring springs of the jacks, and MONITOR co-axial cable connectors for use in monitoring signals transmitted through the IN and OUT connectors.

Abstract: The pulse generator comprises: a delay line arranged to receive a digital input signal and to produce a plurality of delay line output signals; first and second pulse generator blocks comprising logic circuitry arranged to generate a plurality of successive first output pulses in response to said different delay line output signals; and pulse combiner circuitry arranged to combine said first output pulses to produce second output pulses. The first pulse generator block is arranged to be responsive to rising edges of said input signal, and the second pulse generator blocks is responsive to falling edges of said input signal. Thus, both rising and falling edges of said input signal are used to create pulses. The device can be used in impulse radio transmitters and receivers.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method of operating an aircraft having a passenger cabin and a cargo hold, comprises the steps of directing passengers to board the aircraft, directing passengers to deposit their luggage in a luggage deposit location on-board the aircraft, and subsequently taking the deposited luggage from the luggage deposit location and then storing the luggage in the cargo hold of the aircraft. In another embodiment, a method of unloading an aircraft having a cargo hold and a passenger cabin, comprises the steps of transporting items of luggage from the cargo hold to a luggage collection location on-board the aircraft, and directing passengers to collect their luggage from the luggage collection location and to disembark the aircraft is also provided. Information may be gathered with regard to the identity of passengers embarking and disembarking the aircraft. Yet another embodiment relates to an aircraft having a passenger cabin, a cargo hold, and a luggage handling system mounted in the cargo hold.

Abstract: The present invention is related to low power low noise amplifiers (LNA) including on/off switching capability, which are preferably used for impulse radio (IR) ultra-wideband (UWB) receivers. In the invention a very low power and high-gain Common-Gate Capacitive Cross Coupling Cascaded LNA is proposed, to provide an optimum gain for large ON times. The invention provides also a Common-Source Cascoded LNA for shorter received pulse widths, with the aim of implementing a fast ON/OFF switching. An input signal is applied to a first amplifying stage and the switching means are coupled to a second amplifying stage so that they do not interfere with the matching network of the first stage. The invention is also related to a method of amplifying a radio frequency signal using a plurality of low noise amplifying elements.

Abstract: An aircraft seat assembly comprises a continuous row of a plurality of seats including a convertible aisle seat at one end of the row and one or more other seats. The seats are moveable between (i) a first configuration in which all of the seats are positioned in a useable position and a second configuration in which (a) the convertible seat is positioned in an unusable position in the row, (b) said one or more other seats are positioned in a useable position, and (c) the row of seats has a length, along the row, that is less than the length of the row in the first configuration for example by a distance of more than half the width of the convertible seat in the first configuration. The width of said one or more other seats may remain unchanged as between the first and second configurations.

Abstract: The object of the present invention is carbon nanofibers mainly characterized by their high specific volume of mesopores, their high gas adsorption capacity and presenting a graphitic hollow structure. A second object of this invention is a procedure for obtaining such carbon nanofibers, which makes use of a metallic nickel catalyst and specific process furnace parameters that combined with the chemical composition of the furnace atmosphere and the fluidodynamic conditions of the gas stream inside the furnace, result in a faster growth of the carbon nanofibers and also in a higher quality of the carbon nanofibers obtained.

The method allows composite parts to be produced with a neater parting line between the individual coloured regions.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for analyzing potential inclusion dependencies between columns of database tables is provided. A client issues a command, e.g., a SQL statement, to a database server. The command is processed at the database server without the performance of a join. Result data that indicates any exact inclusion dependencies or approximate inclusion dependencies between columns of database tables identified in the command is transmitted from the database server to the client. In processing the command, values stored in columns of database tables are converted into integer representations that require fewer resources to analyze. Disclosed techniques provide for the use of an index on a single database table rather than defining an index on each database table, which can be impractical. Further, the performance of only one pass on the data is required to identify any inclusion dependencies between columns of database tables.

Abstract: An aircraft 1 comprises a walkway 11 moveable between a stowed position and a deployed position. The aircraft may be arranged such that the walkway, in the deployed position, defines a path, at least a portion of which extends from the fuselage at an angle, when viewed from above, of less than 90 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the aircraft. The walkway 11, in the stowed position, may be located at an angle, when viewed from above, of less than 80 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the aircraft. The opening 9 may be located in a region extending from 20% to 80% of the total cabin length. The walkway may be further moveable to a second deployed position.

Abstract: A method for multiple access in a radiocommunication system which avoids forming a signaling multiframe with an inflexible turn of transmission. A fixed unit broadcasts over a pilot channel a predetermined number of virtual identities for signaling which form the signaling multiframe, so that when a remote unit wishes to transmit, it selects one of the virtual identities received. The time slots in the signaling multiframe are distributed among those remote units which have signaling messages to transmit to the fixed unit.

Abstract: An aircraft according to one embodiment has a fuselage which houses an upper level and a lower level separated by the floor of the upper level, wherein at least one of the cross-sectional shape of the fuselage and the floor of the upper level is configured such that the ceiling height in at least part of both the upper and lower levels is sufficient for a person to stand, and one of the upper and lower levels comprises a passenger cabin and the other level comprises a cargo hold. There is also provided, according to another embodiment a method of operating an aircraft having a fuselage which houses an upper level and a lower level separated by the floor of the upper level.

Abstract: The invention relates to an overvoltage protection circuit comprising an MOV (Metal Oxide Varistor) voltage limiting device (3) which is disposed in series with a GDT (Gas Discharge Tube) voltage limiting device (4). The invention is characterized in that a resistor (5) is disposed in parallel with the aforementioned GDT device (4), the value of said resistor being such that the voltage supported by the GDT device (4) is less than the holdover voltage thereof. In another embodiment of the invention, a second resistor (6) is disposed in parallel with the MOV device (3) and, together with the above-mentioned resistor (5), forms a resistive divider such that the voltage applied the GDT device (4) under steady-state conditions is less than the holdover voltage of the GDT.

Abstract: A preventive and therapeutic drug for a neurodegenerative disease containing, as an active ingredient, a cyclohexenone long-chain alcohol compound represented by formula (1) wherein each of R1, R2, and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and X represents a C10–C28 alkylene group or alkenylene group. Since the compound of the present invention exhibits excellent neurite-extension ability and an inhibition effect on disorders caused by mutation in an SOD gene, it is useful as the active ingredient of a preventive and therapeutic drug for neurodegenerative diseases, inter alia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and as the active ingredient of an inhibitory drug for disorders caused by mutation in an SOD gene.

The hotels (26A-26D) in producing a match list (82) find matches between their guest list (76) and the downloaded copy of the out-of-block list (64). After validating and accepting matches between the lists (64, 76), the hotels (26A-26D) upload the match list (84) to the housing-audit computer (52) for use in producing audit reports (88) supplied to the sponsor (24).
