  • Publication number: 20160024622
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a process for producing a hardened and tempered component made of specially heat-treated cast iron (e.g., AGI). According to the disclosure, a main body made of cast iron is prepared which may already be in the shape of an engine block. The main body may then be subjected to pre-machining, which may include forming one or more bores. Then, the main body may be hardened and tempered by a suitable heat treatment, such as a special heat treatment. After the disclosed heat treatment, post-processing of the component may follow, such as establishing the final dimensions.

  • Publication number: 20160025167
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a brake disk and a method for producing a brake disk. The method may include roughening at least some area(s) of a surface of the main body, forming a metal coating on at least some area(s) of the roughened region of the surface of the main body, applying an enamel slip to at least some area(s) of the surface of the main body, drying the applied enamel slip, and heating the main body to form the enamel coating and to join the metal coating metallurgically to the main body. The brake disk may include a main body having an enamel coating arranged at least in some area(s). A metal coating may additionally be formed on the surface of the main body, at least in some area(s), wherein the metal coating is joined metallurgically to the main body.

  • Publication number: 20140377122
Abstract: The invention relates to a cast iron material with lamellar graphite formation. It further relates to a motor vehicle part made of the cast iron material. In order to create a ferritic cast iron material having a higher thermal conductivity, it is proposed according to the invention that, in addition to Fe, the cast iron material contains 3.9 to 4.2 wt. % C, 0.3 to 0.9 wt. % Si and 2.0 to 7 wt. % Al. It has been demonstrated within the scope of the invention that not only the thermal conductivity but also the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the material are increased in comparison to known cast iron materials.

  • Publication number: 20120058363
Abstract: The invention relates to a coated lightweight metal disk, in particular a brake disk, comprising a support disk made of a thermally resistant lightweight metal alloy, and a heat-insulating friction layer formed from a metal alloy that includes nanocrystals. The friction layer can be applied directly to the support disk without adding an insulating intermediate layer. Because of the thermally insulating effect of the friction layer, only a moderate amount of heat is transferred to the support disk.

  • Patent number: 7296610
Abstract: A method of manufacturing metallic components consisting of at least two different materials, one of them being an iron-based alloy and the other an aluminum-based alloy, and involving the steps of: depositing a metallic layer onto the body made from the iron-based alloy, said layer being an aluminum-based alloy, preferably based on Al—Si or Fe, placing the coated body in a casting mold and casting an aluminum-based alloy about the coated body. Prior to placing the body in the casting mold, the metallic layer of the body is sprayed and/or blasted with silicon powder and/or Borax (Na2B4O7—10H2O, hydrated sodium borate).
