  • Patent number: 5128774
Abstract: A prescan system, and a reproducing apparatus having such a prescan system, which performs a prescan of a recording medium to determine whether auxiliary information (such as audio signal information, character information, code information or the like) is recorded thereon in association with video information. If such auxiliary information is present, the prescan is completed to permit appropriate read-out or other use of the auxiliary information. If no such information is detected, the prescan is terminated, to reduce unnecessary loss of time. Even if such auxiliary information is present, the prescan can be terminated by an instruction from an operator.

  • Patent number: 5072290
Abstract: An adaptive type differential encoding method and a device for differentially encoding a color image signal consisting of a plurality of component signals are arranged: To form sample signals for the component signals by sampling the color image signal for every component signal thereof; to form differential signals for the component signals by using the sample signals; to set an allowable quantization error at least for one of the plurality of component signals; to set quantizing characteristics for the differential signals according to the size of the allowable quantization error; and to quantize and encode the differential signals on the basis of the set quantizing characteristics. The arrangement takes the visual perception characteristic of man and enables a differential encoding process to be efficiently accomplished on the color image signal without causing any conspicuous signal deterioration.

  • Patent number: 5053898
Abstract: In the disclosed recording and/or reproducing apparatus, a switch detects whether the recording medium is mounted on the apparatus and a signal detecting head detects whether a signal is recorded on each of the recording tracks of the medium. In response to the switch detecting that the medium is mounted on the apparatus, a control circuit causes the signal detecting head sequentially to scan the recording tracks on the recording medium one after another. A memory stores the output of the signal detecting head during the sequential scanning operation so that a vacant track search operation can be accomplished within a short period of time.

  • Patent number: 4734785
Abstract: An image processing apparatus for printing an image signal consisting of a number of horizontal scanning lines comprises: a sampling circuit for sampling this image signal; an interval changing circuit for changing the sampling interval in the horizontal direction of the sampling circuit; a region changing circuit for narrowing the sampling region of the sampling circuit whenever the sampling interval becomes narrow; and an interpolating circuit for performing the interpolation in the vertical scanning direction in response to the sampling interval becoming narrow. The number of sampling points or the number of horizontal scanning lines which are sampled by the sampling circuit may be changed. In this case, the interpolating circuit performs the interpolation in the vertical direction in response to such a reduction.
